Join one of the top German automotive manufacturers and help shape the future of mobility through innovative digital and IT solutions. In this role, you will drive cutting-edge initiatives across prototypes, car interior experiences, connected car services, ADAS, and navigation; Turn emerging technology into working software and build the prototypes that prove they belong in real products, then scale them.
You will identify and evaluate emerging technologies in silicon, compute, electronics, and software, determine which technologies have the potential to impact future vehicle architectures, and help bring the most promising ones into the organization.
Turn emerging technology into working software and build the prototypes that prove they belong in real products, then scale them.
We are looking for an expert-level software engineer with strong full-stack development experience and broad exposure to modern IT technologies, cloud platforms, and AI-enabled solutions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and research community to design, build, and deliver scalable products that support the next generation of mobility experiences.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Prototype emerging technologies into working proofs-of-concept, then help mature the promising ones into scalable solutions.
- Evaluate new tools, platforms, and approaches — predictive analytics, cloud, connected / edge systems, ML, AI — and make the call on what's worth pursuing.
- Scout and technically evaluate emerging silicon and compute technologies, including automotive SoCs, AI accelerators, NPUs, edge inference technologies, chiplets, and advanced packaging.
- Assess technology roadmaps, architectures, performance benchmarks, power and thermal requirements, toolchain maturity, and overall readiness for automotive applications.
- Own technical initiatives end to end, from concept through launch, shaping architecture and implementation.
- Bring outside innovation in-house through partnerships with high-tech companies, startups, universities, research organizations, and the wider engineering community.
- Build and maintain relationships across the Silicon Valley technology ecosystem to identify promising technologies and partners early.
- Evaluate how silicon capabilities influence software architecture, performance, and scalability.
- Translate external technology developments into clear technical recommendations and communicate their relevance to internal engineering and development teams.
- Own technical initiatives end to end, from concept through launch, shaping architecture and implementation.
- Bring outside innovation in-house through partnerships with high-tech companies, universities, and the wider engineering community.
- Evaluate how silicon capabilities influence software architecture, performance, and scalability.
- Define and support collaborative research and innovation projects, working with cross-functional teams and external partners to bring new technologies into production.
- Present ideas, concepts, and technical solutions confidently to engineering leadership and key stakeholders.
- Guide and mentor engineers as initiatives grow.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Hands-on technical experience in one or more of the following areas: silicon architecture, compute platforms, embedded systems, ML systems, compilers, or high-performance processors.
- Depth in software engineering — you can design, build, and ship real systems, and you've carried work through the full concept-to-launch cycle.
- Experience or exposure to compute platforms, embedded systems, or high-performance automotive processors.
- Ability to understand and critically evaluate technical specifications, architectures, benchmarks, and performance claims rather than relying solely on high-level technology assessments.
- Comfort in ambiguity: taking a vague, emerging idea, determining its technical potential, and turning promising concepts into something that runs.
- Exposure to a broad range of technologies across IT, cloud, IoT, ML and AI.
- Working knowledge of one or more of: predictive analytics / ML, cloud services, IoT, connected systems.
- Software experience with Python or C++ is highly valuable, particularly in areas such as model deployment, inference optimization, quantization, or embedded/edge computing.
- A research-minded, problem-solving approach with the ability to explore new ideas and technologies and make decisions on where they create technical and business value.
- Ability to work effectively with both external technology innovators and internal engineering organizations — from startups and researchers to established development teams.
- Fluency with Agile delivery and the judgment to lead technical work without heavy process.
- Project management experience with the ability to coordinate technical initiatives across multiple stakeholders.
- Degree in CS, EE / CE, Computer Architecture, Math, Physics, or a related field — or equivalent technical depth built in industry.
A PLUS (NOT REQUIRED)
- Applied-research experience, in industry R&D or a university / research-institute setting.
- Silicon and compute experience.
- Experience with automotive SoCs, AI accelerators, NPUs, edge AI, chiplets, advanced packaging, or semiconductor technologies.
- Postgraduate qualifications or a record of technical publications.
- Experience collaborating with technology partners, startups, universities, research organizations, or venture / innovation ecosystems.
