Parts Manager

Confidential Employer | Commercial Fleet Maintenance & Repair

A growing commercial fleet maintenance and repair organization is seeking an experienced, hands-on Parts Manager to lead our parts operations and ensure our technicians and shop teams have the parts, materials, and support they need to keep work moving efficiently.

This is a working management position for someone who is organized, dependable, comfortable leading a team, and understands that a successful parts department directly impacts shop productivity, customer service, and the overall success of the operation.

The Parts Manager will oversee inventory, purchasing, vendor relationships, parts personnel, pricing, and day-to-day parts availability while working closely with Operations, Account Management, technicians, and company leadership.

What You’ll Do

Lead and support Parts Department employees, including daily workload, scheduling, training, accountability, and performance
Manage parts inventory and maintain appropriate stocking levels based on shop needs and usage
Monitor inventory accuracy and investigate shortages, discrepancies, and unusual usage
Order parts and materials needed for scheduled and unscheduled repairs
Ensure technicians receive the correct parts as quickly as possible to minimize downtime
Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers
Negotiate pricing, availability, delivery expectations, and purchasing terms when appropriate
Compare vendors and purchasing options to control costs without sacrificing quality or availability
Review parts pricing, invoices, purchase orders, credits, returns, and related documentation for accuracy
Coordinate special-order and backordered parts and communicate delays to the appropriate team members
Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient parts department
Establish and maintain processes for receiving, stocking, issuing, returning, and tracking parts
Identify opportunities to improve purchasing practices, inventory levels, organization, and overall department efficiency
Work closely with Operations Managers, Account Managers, Foremen, and technicians to anticipate upcoming parts needs
Assist with inventory counts, audits, reporting, and reconciliation
Hold the Parts Department accountable for timely and accurate completion of daily responsibilities
Step in and assist with day-to-day parts functions when needed

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who can lead from the front. You should be equally comfortable managing inventory and vendors, coaching employees, solving a parts issue for a technician, and jumping in to help your team during a busy day.

Qualifications include:

Previous parts, inventory, purchasing, warehouse, automotive, diesel, fleet, or similar experience
Previous supervisory or management experience strongly preferred
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Experience managing inventory and maintaining accurate records
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong vendor management and negotiation skills
Good computer skills and the ability to learn new systems
Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
Ability to hold employees accountable while maintaining a positive, team-oriented environment
Understanding of the importance of cost control, inventory accuracy, and parts availability
Dependable attendance and a strong sense of ownership over the department

Experience with heavy-duty trucks, trailers, diesel repair, fleet maintenance, or commercial vehicle parts is highly preferred.

A successful Parts Manager keeps the department organized, inventory accurate, costs controlled, vendors accountable, and technicians supplied with what they need.

You will be expected to take ownership of the department, identify problems before they become larger issues, communicate effectively across departments, and continuously look for ways to make the parts operation more efficient.
