Full Job Description

CNC Setup Machinist – Turning and Milling

Selflock Screw Products, also known as SSP, is hiring an experienced CNC Setup Machinist in Syracuse, NY.

This is not an entry-level operator role. We are looking for someone who can set up CNC machines, read prints, adjust offsets, select tooling, troubleshoot production issues, and verify parts using precision inspection tools.

SSP is a long-standing Syracuse manufacturer founded in 1919, supporting critical industries through tight-tolerance precision machining, custom machined parts, cable assemblies, and wire harnesses. We are looking for setup people who can help strengthen production flow, quality, and repeatability.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC turning and/or milling machines

Perform machine setups, tooling changes, workholding, offsets, and part changeovers

Read blueprints, technical drawings, tolerances, and inspection requirements

Inspect first pieces and in-process parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and related tools

Make basic machine adjustments and program edits as needed

Troubleshoot dimensional, tooling, finish, and setup issues

Work with quality, engineering, supervisors, and operators to keep production moving

Support clean, safe, organized, and reliable shop practices

Requirements

CNC setup experience required

CNC turning and/or CNC milling experience required

Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring tools

Strong mechanical problem-solving ability

Experience working with tight tolerances

Reliable, detail-oriented, and team-focused

Preferred

Multi-axis machining experience

Mazak, Swiss-style, screw machine, lathe, or machining center experience

GD&T experience

Aerospace, defense, medical, or regulated manufacturing experience

Experience with stainless, aluminum, steel, brass, copper, or specialty materials

Pay

$24.00 - $32.00 per hour, based on experience
