Renewal Springs is seeking an experienced Clinical Director to lead the clinical program at our ASAM Level 3.7 medically supervised detox facility in Oklahoma City. This role is ideal for a licensed behavioral health professional who is organized, clinically confident, comfortable holding staff accountable, and experienced in substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health treatment.
This is not a traditional outpatient therapy position. The Clinical Director works in a high-acuity, interdisciplinary environment where clients may experience withdrawal symptoms, psychiatric concerns, trauma-related distress, suicidal ideation, ambivalence about treatment, and an urgent need for continuing care.
The Clinical Director reports to the Executive Director, supervises clinical staff, and works closely with medical providers, nursing leadership, case management, admissions, utilization review, and direct care staff.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the facility’s behavioral health and substance use disorder clinical services.
- Provide and document ongoing clinical and administrative supervision for clinicians, case management, PRSS, and other assigned clinical personnel.
- Ensure clinical staff practice within their license, credential, training, facility privileges, assigned responsibilities, and authorized scope of practice.
- Oversee clinical onboarding, training, competency assessment, performance evaluation, coaching, retraining, and corrective action.
- Lead multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and promote consistent communication between clinical, medical, case management, admissions, and direct care departments.
- Oversee integrated screening and assessment practices, including evaluation of suicide risk, behavioral health concerns, treatment needs, and appropriateness for the level of care.
- Ensure biopsychosocial assessments, individualized service plans, progress notes, discharge documentation, continuing care plans, and referrals are accurate, timely, individualized, and clinically defensible.
- Monitor the appropriateness and effectiveness of treatment and provide staff feedback that strengthens clinical judgment, documentation, and service delivery.
- Oversee discharge planning and continuity of care, including specific referrals, client participation, communication with continuing care providers, and follow-up when valid consent permits.
- Conduct routine and targeted clinical record audits, document findings, track corrections, and ensure staff retraining or corrective action occurs when deficiencies are identified.
- Support quarterly clinical record quality reviews, performance improvement activities, client outcome monitoring, grievance review, and corrective action planning.
- Maintain continuous readiness for ODMHSAS, Joint Commission, payer, and internal reviews.
- Coordinate the behavioral health response to suicidal ideation, self-harm risk, threats to others, acute psychiatric symptoms, unplanned discharge, client grievances, and other high-risk situations.
- Participate in critical incident review, root-cause analysis, and development of corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure services are person-centered, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, culturally responsive, co-occurring capable, and grounded in generally accepted clinical practices.
- Maintain client confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, Oklahoma client rights requirements, professional ethics, ODMHSAS standards, and Renewal Springs policies and procedures.
- Participate as a member of the Executive Management Team and contribute clinical expertise to policy development, program evaluation, staffing decisions, and organizational planning.
- Provide direct clinical services when needed and when permitted by professional scope of practice and facility privileges.
Required Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted Oklahoma clinical license in good standing that qualifies the applicant to provide and supervise services within the facility’s substance use disorder treatment program.
- Acceptable credentials may include LADC, LADC-MH, LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LBP, licensed psychologist, or another clinical license recognized by ODMHSAS.
- Applicants whose primary license is not specific to substance use disorder treatment must have documented education, training, and experience demonstrating competence in substance use disorder services.
- Minimum of four years of clinical experience providing substance use disorder or co-occurring mental health treatment.
- Minimum of two years of documented experience providing clinical or administrative supervision to treatment staff.
- Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, co-occurring disorder treatment, suicide-risk response, clinical ethics, professional boundaries, and confidentiality.
- Ability to interpret and apply ODMHSAS requirements, professional licensing rules, accreditation standards, payer requirements, and facility policy.
- Strong clinical documentation, staff coaching, conflict-management, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain licensure, continuing education, credentialing, and facility privileges in good standing.
- Dependable attendance, professional judgment, and willingness to address performance or compliance concerns directly.
Preferred Experience
- Clinical leadership experience in ASAM Level 3.7 withdrawal management, residential substance use disorder treatment, psychiatric treatment, crisis services, or another high-acuity behavioral health setting.
- Experience preparing for Joint Commission or other behavioral health accreditation surveys.
- Experience conducting clinical chart audits, implementing corrective action plans, and monitoring documentation improvement.
- Experience with payer authorization, utilization review, medical-necessity documentation, and collaboration with billing teams.
- Experience supervising licensure candidates, counselor candidates, interns, or practicum students.
- Experience with Kipu or another behavioral health electronic medical record.
- Training in motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral approaches, relapse prevention, brief intervention, or other evidence-based substance use treatment practices.
Work Environment
Renewal Springs provides medically supervised withdrawal management for adults in a structured, twenty-four-hour behavioral health setting. The Clinical Director must be comfortable working around clients who may present with withdrawal symptoms, psychiatric concerns, trauma histories, suicidal ideation, emotional distress, resistance to treatment, or an urgent need for a higher level of care.
This role requires compassion, strong boundaries, practical judgment, attention to detail, and a willingness to hold staff accountable. The right Clinical Director will understand that effective leadership requires both staff support and consistent enforcement of clinical, documentation, ethical, and regulatory expectations.
The Clinical Director provides behavioral health leadership but does not replace or override the authority of the Medical Director, prescribing practitioners, or Director of Nursing in medical, prescribing, or nursing matters.
Schedule
This is a full-time, primarily on-site leadership position. Regular weekday availability is required. Some after-hours consultation, schedule flexibility, or response to urgent clinical concerns is expected.
Compensation
Competitive salaried compensation based on licensure, clinical leadership experience, substance use disorder treatment experience, supervisory qualifications, and relevant accreditation or regulatory experience.
