Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Bookkeeper to join our dynamic finance team. This entry-level role offers an exciting opportunity to develop your accounting skills while supporting the accurate and efficient management of financial records. As an integral part of our organization, you will assist with a variety of bookkeeping tasks, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and contributing to the overall financial health of our organization. This position is ideal for candidates eager to grow their expertise in accounting systems, financial software, and industry best practices within a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

Assist with data entry and maintenance of financial transactions using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, and other financial systems
Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes by verifying invoices, processing payments, and reconciling statements
Perform bank reconciliations and general ledger account analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
Prepare journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and general ledger adjustments in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
Help with payroll processing, including data entry and ensuring timely payments while maintaining confidentiality
Assist in preparing financial reports, summaries, and supporting documentation for audits or management review
Maintain organized records of financial documents, including invoices, receipts, and bank statements, adhering to proper document retention policies

Experience

Previous experience or internship in bookkeeping or accounting is preferred but not required; strong willingness to learn is essential
Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Xero, Sage or similar platforms is highly desirable
Basic understanding of accounting concepts including debits & credits, double entry bookkeeping, journal entries, account reconciliation, and financial statement preparation
Proficiency in spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets) for data analysis and report writing
Knowledge of payroll processing procedures and governmental accounting standards is a plus
Ability to perform 10-key typing efficiently for data entry tasks
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to manage multiple financial tasks accurately
