Pay: $70K base + 4% commission (on food, beverage, and equipment; excludes labor, gratuity, and tax)

Foodstuffs Events & Catering has served Chicago and the North Shore since 1979, producing hospitality-forward events with speed, culinary quality, and design-driven presentation. We serve 90,000+ guests annually.

The Role

This is a full-cycle Catering Sales Manager role covering the full spectrum of our business—corporate and social. Corporate work spans drop-offs, executive lunches, board meetings, conferences, holiday parties, and company milestones. Social work spans weddings, mitzvahs, baby and bridal showers, funerals and shivas, graduations, milestone birthdays, anniversaries, and other family-and-friends gatherings. When a lead comes in—or when you generate one—you own it end-to-end:

Sell → design the event → build the custom proposal → revise → contract → payment → production paperwork → venue coordination → execution handoff → repeat business and referrals.

This role requires versatility across a wide range of client types and event formats. In a given week, you may be scoping a large corporate offsite, guiding a host through the details of a plated wedding dinner, and coordinating a time-sensitive funeral or shiva order. Success in this seat depends on reading each client accurately, adapting your approach accordingly, and converting every event into a lasting client relationship. This is not a role for someone seeking a close-and-handoff sales model—our producers own the full lifecycle of every event.

What You'll Do

Handle inbound inquiries (phone, web, marketing, past clients, referrals) and convert them into booked events across both corporate and social calendars.
Drive outbound outreach and build a self-sourced pipeline through corporate accounts, venue partners, planners, religious institutions, and past-client networks.
Create custom proposals with real BOH logic: menu design (including allergen-aware, and dietary-restricted builds), portions, service style (drop-off, plated, family-style, stations, passed), rentals/equipment, and staffing considerations.
Manage venue relationships and venue-specific touches: site walks, kitchen assessments, load-in logistics, linen and rental coordination, ceremony-to-reception transitions, and on-site styling details.
Produce accurate event documentation in Caterease (BEOs, kitchen orders, pull lists/rentals, timelines) and manage contract signing and payments.
Guide clients through every kind of moment—from high-stakes corporate visibility to emotionally significant family milestones, including same-week funeral and shiva orders—with professionalism, warmth, speed, and discretion.
Own client relationships long-term: corporate accounts re-order through the year, and families return for the next shower, mitzvah, graduation, and wedding. Build that book.
Build venue and referral relationships across the North Shore and Chicagoland to keep the pipeline full when any one segment is slower.
Follow SOPs on lead times, minimums, delivery windows, staffing protocols, rentals, and last-minute changes.

What Success Looks Like

You build a consistent self-sourced pipeline across corporate and social clients, plus venue/planner referrals (not dependent on marketing).
You drive $600,000+ in year-one revenue through consistent activity and execution.
Your events run clean: accurate paperwork, realistic promises, strong reviews, glowing thank-you notes, repeat corporate orders, and the next family event already on the calendar.

What You Bring

Prior experience producing catering events while selling (proposal-building and BOH literacy required).
Range across both corporate and social work—or a strong track record in one with clear ability to learn the other.
Comfort with the emotional range of social work—celebratory, sentimental, and sometimes grieving—paired with the polish and responsiveness corporate buyers expect.
Familiarity with the cadence and customs of weddings, mitzvahs, showers, funerals/shivas, and milestone celebrations is a strong plus.
Strong outbound discipline and follow-through (low activity and sloppy follow-up won't work here).
Comfort owning details: revisions, accuracy, timelines, and client expectations.
Ability to drive locally for client visits, venue site walks, and tastings as needed.
