Full Job Description

Educational Alliance (EA), one of New York City’s original settlement houses, was founded in 1889 to offer educational, social, and cultural services to Jewish immigrants arriving to the Lower East Side. Today, EA is a proudly Jewish institution that partners with our neighbors throughout Lower Manhattan. We provide New Yorkers with high-quality, transformational programs that enhance their well-being and socio-economic opportunities, reflecting our belief that everyone in our city should be given the tools to thrive. Our wide array of programs includes free meals for older adults, addiction treatment and recovery, innovative early childhood education, art classes, Jewish cultural and educational events, and more. We remain committed to recognizing the intrinsic value within each individual and the importance of building community.

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, we seek an experienced Grant Writer to manage a comprehensive social service portfolio of foundation, corporate, and government funders that support Educational Alliance’s (1) older adult services (2) teen center and community arts programs (3) food access programs (4) and workforce development services. The Grant Writer will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing grant proposals, reports, and related communications to secure funding from foundations, corporations, and government agencies, while maintaining an active portfolio and ensuring compliance with all submission requirements. The Grant Writer will work closely with program staff to develop high-quality proposals that meet the needs of our community; partner with finance staff to develop budgets, budget narratives, and financial reports; and collaborate with research & evaluation staff to include program data and outcomes for use in communication with funders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare and submit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, narrative reports, and related materials aligned with funder priorities, tailoring your writing to suit major institutional foundations, government agencies, small family foundations.
Identify and research prospective funding opportunities and develop engagement strategies.
Manage a portfolio of grants, including renewals, reporting, and compliance tracking.
Coordinate internal stakeholders to gather input, review submissions, and secure approvals.
Ensure timely and accurate completion of all grant documentation and submissions.
Maintain records of all funder interactions and submissions in tracking systems.
Support budgeting processes by sharing key deadlines and financial reporting requirements for institutional funding revenue.
Coordinate and support funder site visits and relationship management activities, including preparing senior program staff to meet with donors.
Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective funders
Develop a strong working knowledge of research, literature, and current news informing the programmatic fields in your portfolio.
Complete additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the team and agency.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors Degree required
2+ years of professional experience in grant writing or fundraising.
Superior written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment
Strong collaboration skills, professionalism, and organizational efficiency.
Detail-oriented with the ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate multiple projects and deadlines and work with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fundraising databases
