SUMMARY_____________________________________________________________________
Under the general direction of the Parks & Recreation Building Maintenance Supervisor, the maintenance worker II will operate a variety of light, medium, and heavy-duty maintenance, landscape and construction, vehicles, equipment, and perform numerous grounds and maintenance tasks. This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pound of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS___________________________________________________________
- Operates a variety of light to medium duty vehicles and equipment such as backhoes, mowers, tractors, chainsaws and hand tools.
- Skilled work mowing grass and right of ways; picks up trash and performs general landscape maintenance tasks.
- Performs routine manual labor and maintenance tasks.
- Picks up and delivers a variety of materials and supplies.
- Assists in loading and unloading equipment and supplies.
- Washes, greases, services, and makes minor adjustments to equipment.
- Oversee the use and repair of various equipment.
- Instructs work crew members of proper techniques and safety standards, and assure proper use of materials and chemicals.
- Maintain inventory of supplies for maintenance and repair.
- Recommends equipment purchases and replacements.
- Assist other recreation maintenance for special events.
- Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS________________________________________________________________
Minimum Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
- Six months experience operating various light to medium duty motorized vehicles, and other required equipment.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Other Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
- Knowledge of tools and equipment used.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and applicable safety precautions in the area of work.
- Knowledge of all equipment and specialized tools used in facility and grounds maintenance.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor in varied weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
- Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor conditions.

REQUIREMENTS_______________________________________________________________
- A valid driver's license.
- This position requires work during inclement weather, natural disasters, emergency situations, and on call duty.

Pre-Employment Screening:
Employment with the Town of Hope Mills is at-will and is conditional meaning it may be contingent upon the completion of pre-employment screenings, to include a drug test, criminal history, motor vehicle record, verification of education and/or employment and professional references. Positions with direct interaction with minors will be required to provide a negative TB test and complete a fingerprint background check prior to any unsupervised contact with minors.
Overtime Compensation Agreement:
Consistent with the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, it is the town’s policy to compensate non-exempt employees for overtime work with compensatory time off or overtime pay. As part of the acceptance of any offer of employment with the Town, employees in non-exempt positions agree to accept, at the discretion of the town, either compensatory time off or overtime pay, as appropriate compensation for overtime work that may be required to perform as an employee of the Town of Hope Mills.

This is a fast-paced, sometimes high-pressure environment, during recreation events. This position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, with irregular hours including evenings and weekends. Employee must be able to use hands and fingers to operate computer and utilize tools. Must be able to see clearly to perform tasks and identify safety hazards.
