Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Therapist to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will provide evidence-based therapeutic services to individuals struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Your expertise will help clients navigate their recovery journey, develop coping skills, and achieve lasting wellness. This position offers an engaging opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of diverse populations through comprehensive clinical care, crisis intervention, and client-centered counseling.

Responsibilities

Conduct thorough client assessments using DSM-5 criteria and clinical documentation standards to develop individualized treatment plans.
Deliver individual, group, and family counseling sessions utilizing behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based practices.
Facilitate crisis intervention and crisis management strategies to ensure client safety during acute episodes or emergencies.
Perform intake evaluations, monitor patient progress, and adjust treatment approaches accordingly while maintaining HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
Manage electronic health records (EHR) and medical documentation accurately, adhering to medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), and clinical documentation standards.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on case management, discharge planning, and coordination of home & community care services for clients with complex needs.
Engage in ongoing research and professional development to stay current with addiction medicine advancements, mental health counseling techniques, and behavioral health trends.

Experience

Bachelor's degree
Masters level clinician or CADC equivalent
Minimum one year experience working with substance abuse
Proven experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions in clinical or community settings.
Demonstrated expertise in psychotherapy modalities such as behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and applied behavior analysis (ABA).
Strong background in crisis management, crisis intervention, patient assessment, and social work practices within hospital or outpatient environments.
Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR/EHR management), medical records maintenance, and documentation standards aligned with HIPAA regulations.
Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds and populations requiring specialized addiction counseling or mental health support.
Knowledge of diagnostic evaluation tools including DSM-5 criteria and ICD coding systems (ICD-9/10).
Ability to work effectively within a team environment while demonstrating excellent client communication skills and case management capabilities.
