Full Job Description

We're looking for an HR Generalist to be the day-to-day engine of the HR function at Scharmach Automotive Group. This role handles the full range of HR administration — onboarding, benefits, employee records, policy administration, and first-line employee support — while working closely with the HR Business Partner on larger initiatives. It's a strong fit for someone who wants broad, hands-on HR exposure in a fast-moving retail environment and is looking to grow into a more strategic role over time.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

● Manage new hire onboarding end-to-end: offer paperwork, I-9/E-Verify, background checks, orientation scheduling, and system setup.

● Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions on benefits, payroll, policy, and general HR matters.

● Maintain accurate, compliant employee files and HRIS records, including status changes, pay changes, and terminations.

● Administer day-to-day benefits operations, enrollments, eligibility, life-event changes, and terminations.

● Support open enrollment logistics, employee benefits education, and coordination with carriers, the 401(k) recordkeeper, and third-party administrators.

● Support leave of absence tracking (FMLA, PFML, personal leave), including deadline tracking and required notices, under HRBP guidance.

● Coordinate the recruiting process for non-executive roles: posting requisitions, screening candidates, scheduling interviews, and managing applicant tracking.

● Draft routine HR correspondence — offer letters, verification of employment, policy reminders — using approved templates and tone.

● Assist with employee relations documentation, including note-taking and follow-up tracking for coaching conversations and investigations.

● Track required training, certifications, and compliance deadlines (e.g., harassment prevention training, licensing renewals).

● Support the HR Business Partner on special projects, including restructures, policy rollouts, and reporting requests.

● Own benefits strategy and plan design, including the self-funded medical plan, traditional/fully-insured policy options, 401(k), and ancillary benefits — evaluating plan performance, carrier and TPA relationships, funding structure, and renewal strategy.

WHAT YOU BRING

● 2+ years of HR administration or generalist experience; automotive, retail, or other commission-based sales environment a plus.

● Solid working knowledge of core HR processes — onboarding, benefits administration, recordkeeping — with attention to accuracy and confidentiality.

● Familiarity with Washington State employment basics (wage and hour, sick leave, leave entitlements) or a demonstrated ability to learn quickly.

● Comfort working in HRIS/payroll systems and standard office tools (Excel, Outlook, etc.).

● Clear, professional written communication — you'll routinely handle documents that employees and, at times, external parties will read.

● A discreet, even-keeled temperament; this role sees sensitive information daily.

● Associate's or Bachelor's degree in HR, business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
