Ophthalmic Medical Scribe & Doctor's Assistant

Premium Eye Centers — A Growing Ophthalmology Practice Location: 17900 NW 5th Street, Suite 205, Pembroke Pines, FL 33029

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25–$33 per hour, depending on experience

About Us

Premium Eye Centers is a busy, patient-focused ophthalmology practice providing comprehensive eye care and surgical services including cataract, glaucoma, cornea, LASIK, and PRK procedures. As we continue to grow — including expanding to a new location in Hollywood, FL — we're looking for an experienced right hand for our physicians to help us deliver high-quality, personal care every day.

The Role

This is first and foremost a doctor's assistant and medical scribe role. You will help the physician see patients efficiently, documenting every encounter in real time, and keeping patient flow moving so the doctor can focus on care. You'll be the person the physician relies on to anticipate needs, capture accurate notes, and handle patient requests as they come up.

Beyond scribing and clinical support, this role also carries supplemental billing responsibilities and touches nearly every part of how the practice runs. The ideal candidate isn't just a great scribe — they bring deep, well-rounded experience across ophthalmology office operations and can step in wherever needed. Experience with everything is truly ideal.

What You'll Do

Primary — Doctor's Assistant & Scribe:

Work directly alongside the physician throughout the day, helping the doctor see patients smoothly and efficiently
Document patient encounters in real time in EMA (Modernizing Medicine), capturing histories, exam findings, and plans accurately
Assist during exams, laser procedures (SLT, LPI, YAG capsulotomy), and in-office minor procedures — preparing the room, consent, lenses, and instruments as needed
Handle patient requests and questions promptly, serving as a responsive point of contact
Keep exam and laser rooms stocked, clean, and ready between patients

Supplemental — Billing & Practice Support:

Support billing duties, including insurance verification, copay/balance collection, and timely electronic claims submission
Coordinate medication e-prescribing and prior authorizations, keeping RX bins current throughout the day
Help maintain accurate, HIPAA-compliant medical records and handle records requests
Coordinate with our remote support team across surgical scheduling, kiosk check-in/out, medication coordination, phones, and recalls
Comfortably schedule surgery as a backup when the surgical coordinator is out — not the day-to-day focus, but an essential skill to keep patient care uninterrupted
Manage office and medical supply ordering and serve as a contact for equipment service, IT, and specialty pharmacies

What We're Looking For

Significant, well-rounded experience in an ophthalmology or eye-care practice — the more areas you've worked across, the better
Medical scribe experience, ideally in ophthalmology, with strong real-time documentation skills
Experience with EMA / Modernizing Medicine (or a comparable EHR)
Working knowledge of medical billing, insurance verification, and HIPAA
Comfort assisting with clinical and laser procedures
Highly organized, dependable, quick on their feet, and calm under a busy patient load
A true team player who's happy to jump in wherever the practice needs support
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
