Signature Perinatal Center is seeking a Medical Scribe & Patient Care Coordinator to join our Maternal-Fetal Medicine (high-risk obstetrics) practice. This is a unique hybrid role: you will work one-on-one with our physician as her clinical right hand, supporting the entire patient visit from start to finish. Few entry-level healthcare positions offer this level of involvement in real patient care.
Our physician, who also serves as an Assistant Professor at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, works closely with her Medical Scribe & Patient Care Coordinator every day. You will see firsthand how physicians think, how complex prenatal care decisions are made, and how a specialty practice runs, all while building the clinical foundation that medical, PA, and nursing schools look for.

Position Overview
As our Medical Scribe & Patient Care Coordinator, you are involved in every stage of the patient’s visit. This is one integrated role, not two separate jobs: everything you do serves the same goal of keeping the physician focused on the patient and the clinic running smoothly.
Before the visit, you prepare each patient’s chart by reviewing prior records, laboratory results, imaging studies, and outside medical records so the physician walks in fully informed.
During the visit, you will obtain relevant medical history and document the encounter in real time within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), capturing histories, examinations, assessments, and treatment plans as they happen.
After the visit, you make sure the plan actually happens: coordinating referrals, imaging, laboratory testing, and specialist consultations, following up on patients admitted to the hospital, sending records to referring providers, and seeing the physician’s task list through to completion.
Over time, something remarkable happens in this role: you come to know our patients. When the physician asks about a patient, you will be the person who knows her story, her history, and where she is in her care. Our patients are navigating high-risk pregnancies, and the continuity you provide becomes a genuine part of their care experience.
You will interact daily with our Nurse Practitioner, sonographers, hospital staff, genetic counselors, pharmacies, and referring providers to coordinate care for patients with high-risk pregnancies. Every day brings new learning and a genuine role in patient care.
What You’ll Do
- Obtain relevant medical history at the start of each visit
- Assist with placing continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) on patients (training provided)
- Document physician-patient encounters in real time within the EMR
- Follow up on patients the physician sends to the hospital and keep her informed of their status
- Work collaboratively with our Nurse Practitioner and sonographers throughout the clinic day
- Prepare patient charts before clinic by reviewing prior records, labs, imaging, and outside records
- Accurately document histories, physical examinations, assessments, treatment plans, and physician recommendations
- Coordinate follow-up care, including referrals, imaging, laboratory testing, specialist consultations, and appointments
- Communicate professionally and warmly with patients, referring physicians, hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies, and outside specialists
- Monitor the physician’s task list and see recommendations through to completion
- Assist with coding and billing documentation to support accurate charge capture
- Send consultation reports, laboratory results, and medical records to referring providers
- Maintain organized, accurate, and timely patient records with strict HIPAA compliance
- Learn the rhythm of the clinic and stay one step ahead of the physician’s workflow

Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- Excellent computer proficiency
- Strong typing skills (70 to 80 WPM recommended)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to commute to Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308
- In-person position
Preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology (training provided)
- Previous medical scribe, medical assistant, or healthcare experience
- Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR)

Most scribe positions offer hourly pay and little else. Our full benefits package makes the total value of this role meaningfully higher than the hourly rate alone.
