Full Job Description

Position: Receptionist

EXEMPT: ______ NON-EXEMPT: __x___

Department: Front Office

Approved By: Matt Rogers, Madison Walters, and Wyndee Pushell

I. General Purpose:

A nonexempt position responsible for providing administrative support, under the supervision of the Practice Manager and/or provider(s).

II. Reporting Accountability:

Reports to the Office Manager.

III. Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates commitment to the quality philosophy and values of GHPartners by maintaining established policies and procedures, organizational objectives, process improvement, and safety standards.

2. Demonstrates courtesy in all interpersonal relations.

3. Greets patients and visitors in a pleasant and professional manner.

4. Registers new patients and updates existing patient demographics by collecting detailed patient information including personal and financial information

5. Facilitates patient flow by notifying the provider of patients’ arrival, being aware of delays, and communicating with patients and staff.

6. Schedules appointments, routes calls, take messages, and returns calls as needed.

7. Collects co-pays and account payments. Responsible for cash handling, balancing daily transactions, and daily deposits.

8. Works with billing company(s) as needed.

9. Explains financial requirements to the patient or responsible party.

10. Contacts insurance companies for pre-certification and authorization of medical tests and communicating with Workman’s Comp Insurance companies.

11. Follows compliance with all laws, regulations, and guidelines of federal and state programs with an emphasis on prevention of fraud, waste and abuse.

12. Protects patient confidentiality by making sure protected health information is secured by not leaving PHI in plain sight and logging off the computer before leaving it unattended.

13. All other duties as assigned by Practice Manager and/or provider(s).

IV. KNOWLEDGE, sKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of industry standards for administrative duties and responsibilities.

2. Skilled in written and verbal communication, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

3. Skilled in telephone etiquette, customer service, basic word and excel programs, time management, prioritizing, multi-tasking, organization and scheduling.

4. Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.

5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and diverse patient populations.

6. Ability to adapt to varying tasks and work situations.

V. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

A. Education/Experience Requirements:

a. High School Diploma or GED, required.

b. Previous experience working in a medical office environment, preferred.

c. Minimum computer competency preferred and/or ability to be trained.

d. CPR certification through AHA preferred.

B. Equipment Operated:

Phone, computer, medical charts.

C. Physical and Mental Requirements:

a. Daily standing, sitting, squatting, stooping, walking, bending, maneuvering balancing, kneeling, lifting up to 25 lbs.

b. Finger dexterity, clericalperception, motor coordination, visual acuity, hearing, eye-hand coordination.

VII. Exposure Risk:

Category I - Tasks that involve anticipated contact with blood, body fluids or tissue. Medical exam and treatment rooms and medical offices. Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.
