Full Job Description

Position Overview
Mack Prototype is a fast-paced prototype and low-volume manufacturing company focused on quality, responsiveness, and helping our customers bring products from concept to production. We are a growing company that continues to invest in new technology, equipment, and manufacturing capabilities.

We are looking for a Project Engineer who can combine engineering knowledge, manufacturing experience, and strong project management skills to manage customer projects from initial RFQ through final shipment.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing position well suited for someone who enjoys working in a fast-moving manufacturing environment, solving problems, and coordinating projects across multiple manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate has a few years of engineering, manufacturing, or project management experience and is interested in developing a broad understanding of prototype and low-volume manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Manage customer projects from RFQ and quotation through manufacturing, inspection, and shipment
Review customer RFQs, drawings, CAD models, specifications, quantities, materials, and quality requirements
Develop accurate and competitive quotations based on manufacturing processes, materials, labor, tooling, outside services, and lead times
Determine the appropriate manufacturing process and project approach based on customer requirements
Work with customers to clarify technical requirements, specifications, tolerances, materials, finishes, and project expectations
Provide basic Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback and identify potential manufacturing risks before production
Coordinate projects internally with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Purchasing, Sales, and Shipping
Establish project schedules and monitor jobs to ensure customer requirements and delivery commitments are achieved
Serve as a primary point of contact for customers throughout the project
Communicate project status, technical questions, schedule changes, and other issues clearly and proactively
Coordinate outside vendors and secondary operations when required
Review project costs and performance against quoted expectations
Identify and resolve technical, scheduling, quality, and manufacturing issues
Support continuous improvement of quoting, project management, and manufacturing processes
Develop a strong working knowledge of the company's complete manufacturing capabilities
Identify opportunities where additional company capabilities could benefit existing customers and projects
Create and maintain documentation, including BOMs, routings, material masters, work instructions and project reports using MRP/ERP system.
Support quality department in validations, PPAPs and First Article Reports as well as quality inspection plans.
Ability to support other departments and tasks when required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience in related field.
2–5 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, project management, estimating, or a related technical role
Experience working in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and CAD models
Familiar with manufacturing processes and services including: Injection Molding, CNC Machining, 3D Printing and Assembly.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
Excellent communication, organization and multi-tasking abilities.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Comfortable working in hands-on, small team environment.
Individual must be positive, motivated and excel in team environments.
Individual will work with customers, vendors, sales, business development, operations and quality departments.
