Full Job Description

Position Purpose

A Safety Director/Equipment Coordinator is a dual-focused role responsible for establishing, implementing, and overseeing workplace safety policies while simultaneously managing the acquisition, maintenance, and compliance of tools, machinery, and safety equipment. This position ensures that all operations adhere to OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory standards, while ensuring staff are equipped with functional and safe tools. They also make sure each construction project is conducting operations in a safe manner for the protection of our employees, clients, subcontractors and the general public. The Safety Director sets the tone for corporate safety and risk management, demonstrates strong leadership skills, works well in a team environment, has excellent communication skills and strives to enrich the Company Culture.

Core Responsibilities

Safety Leadership & Compliance: Develop and implement organization-wide safety policies, procedures, and training programs. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
Equipment Management & Maintenance: Manage the inventory, inspection, repair, and purchasing of all tools, vehicles, and equipment. Ensure safety-related gear (fire extinguishers, personal protective equipment - PPE, harnesses) is inspected, calibrated, and maintained. Record and compile data, update logs, monitor equipment location and schedule maintenance. Support Ops Managers in maintaining the Superintendent Storage area.
Inspections & Risk Mitigation: Conduct field safety audits, site inspections, and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA). Identify and mitigate hazards related to equipment and work processes.
Incident Investigation: Lead investigation of accidents, injuries, and near-misses, identifying root causes to prevent future occurrences.
Training & Education: Provide safety training to employees, including equipment safety, proper use of PPE, and emergency response procedures.
Documentation: Maintain detailed records of safety trainings, audits, incident reports, and equipment maintenance logs.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field is typically preferred, though some roles accept an associate degree or equivalent experience.
Experience: 1–5+ years in safety coordination, industrial hygiene, or a related field, with experience in high-risk industries often preferred.
Certifications: OSHA 10-Hour, 30-Hour, or 40-Hour, and certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician).
Skills: Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, risk assessment, and safety management systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and database software.
Physical Demands: Ability to travel to job sites (up to 75% in some roles), lift up to 50 lbs, and work in varied environments (offices, industrial plants, construction sites).
