Responsibilities:
As an Elementary Special Education Resource Teacher, you will:
- Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans aligned with state standards, grade-level curriculum, and students’ Individualized Education Programs
- Provide specialized instruction in core academic areas, including reading, literacy, mathematics, written expression, and other elementary subjects
- Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, assignments, and teaching strategies to meet a variety of learning styles and special education needs
- Deliver small-group and individualized instruction within resource classroom, inclusion, or pull-out settings
- Develop, implement, and monitor measurable IEP goals based on each student’s academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and developmental needs
- Collect and analyze student performance data to evaluate progress and guide instructional decisions
- Conduct formative assessments, curriculum-based measurements, progress monitoring, and other special education assessments as appropriate
- Maintain accurate special education documentation and support compliance with federal, state, district, and school requirements
- Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, parent conferences, and student-support meetings
- Collaborate with general education teachers to provide accommodations, modifications, intervention strategies, and inclusive instructional support
- Partner with school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, instructional aides, administrators, and other educational specialists
- Use positive behavior supports and evidence-based classroom management strategies to maintain a safe, structured, and respectful learning environment
- Communicate proactively with parents and caregivers regarding student progress, classroom performance, strengths, concerns, and available supports
- Integrate educational technology, assistive technology, and learning applications to improve student engagement and accessibility
- Advocate for students while maintaining high expectations for their academic achievement and personal growth
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates should possess:
- A valid state teaching license, certification, or endorsement in Special Education
- Appropriate certification to teach elementary students receiving special education services
- Classroom experience working with students with disabilities in a public, charter, private, or specialized educational environment
- Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs, special education compliance, accommodations, modifications, and progress-monitoring requirements
- Experience providing differentiated instruction to students with varying academic, behavioral, developmental, and communication needs
- Understanding of elementary curriculum, literacy instruction, mathematics instruction, childhood development, and evidence-based teaching practices
- Experience supporting students with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, emotional disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or other exceptional learning needs
- Strong classroom management and positive behavior-support skills
- Ability to interpret student data and use assessment results to adjust instruction
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with families, general education teachers, administrators, and multidisciplinary special education teams
