Full Job Description

General Description:

Under the direction of the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO), the Grants Manager is an agency Innovator. Broadly speaking, he/she is responsible for agency grant research, writing, reporting, compliance, and, as needed, prospect research.

Innovators are independent and impactful decision makers. They constantly look for ways to improve their major program, challenge the system with new ideas, and never settle for following a well-worn path!

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities… He or she must:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience

At least three years of grant writing and researching experience

Exceptional writing and communication skills

Strong computer skills to include proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and training in The Raiser’s Edge

Knowledge and acceptance of the mission of Habitat for Humanity

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

Possess great storytelling techniques to be utilized throughout the organization, as it pertains to donor relations, fundraising, and grant generation.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Raiser’s Edge, Research Point, and/or Wealth Engine experience is a plus.

Job Conditions…

The position is full-time (40 hours per week) and works Monday through Friday. Office hours are flexible. Evening and weekend work is required. It is an exempt position. Conditions and benefits are contained in the board-approved Employee Handbook.

General Responsibilities…

1. Provide calm, confident, and positive leadership to the entire organization.

2. Disseminate information readily to stakeholders as appropriate.

3. Submit accurate reports according to deadlines.

4. When confronted with things with which you question, disagree, or have a concern, speak directly with those involved.

5. Ensure that your area, office, and/or building is clean, organized, safe, and in compliance with all codes.

6. Comply with grant requirements accordingly.

7. Crosstrain with fellow staff to ensure a steady flow of business despite absences.

8. Wholly manage an agency subprogram – Private Foundation Grant Solicitation and Management.

9. The job requires routine, independent, subjective, and significant decision-making.

10. Management Philosophy & System:

a. Deploy Gung Ho management principles and practices. Read the book Gung Ho by Ken Blanchard

b. Utilize the Traction EOS management system. Read a summary of the book Traction by Gino Wickman.

11. Program budget creation and adherence (if applicable).

12. Assist the agency in the creation and operation of checks/balances to ensure system-wide integrity. Think in terms of fraud and theft prevention. We guard against inherent opportunities, not individuals.

13. Learn from your peers - create and maintain relationships with Habitat for Humanity International and other Habitat affiliates.

14. Independently represent the agency outside of the office/warehouse/store.

15. The position has the authority to temporarily deviate from the agency's standard operating procedures when within the context of our Core Values and as may be wise depending upon the circumstances.

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Overall - Identify, cultivate, solicit, and obtain contributions from private grant-making sources per The Plan.

2. Solicitation Assistance – As requested, assist other fundraisers with writing components needed.

3. Plan the Grant Year – Create and maintain a grant calendar. Know the deadlines and submission dates.

4. Agency Expenses as Grant Opportunity – Stay abreast of the budgeted agency expenses listed in The Plan, which make for excellent grant writing opportunities!

5. Private Grant Compliance –

a. Know the required grant compliance before submitting a request. Obtain CPO permission before submission to ensure the agency and other teams can comply accordingly.

b. Write and submit your grant reports per the grant-makers’ requirements.

6. CRM Database – Maintain (weekly) the company CRM software with the pertinent details for your donor portfolio! Include notes for those you researched or removed from your portfolio.

7. Donor Portfolio – Maintain a portfolio of a limited number of donors and prospects per The Plan.

8. Prospecting – Routinely search for foundations – past donors, new prospects, etc.

9. More than Writing Grants – Solicit and cultivate foundations as donors! Cultivation leads to success!

10. General FUN Team & Agency Assistance:

a. Non-Foundation Prospect Research – As requested, investigate new donors on behalf of the FUN Team and C-Suite.

b. General Agency Events – Assist with agency events as requested.

c. Fundraising Events (ie BuildStrong Lunches & HabiTours) – Help spread the word! Invite your friends, family, donors, and prospects to get to know Habitat better!

Miscellaneous:

1. Professional appearance and demeanor.

2. Pleasant speaking voice and articulation.

3. Availability to work on Saturdays and evenings as necessary.

4. Ability to type 40 words per minute.

5. Valid Texas driver’s license, insurance, and an operational vehicle.

6. Undertake other duties as assigned or requested by the C-Suite.
