Full Job Description

We are a Christian homeschooling family in North Fort Worth looking for a dependable, capable person to help with homeschooling and the daily demands of managing a busy family.

Mom has homeschooled our children for years and has developed a system that works well for us. We now have a newborn, along with children ages 9, 13, and 15, and there is simply more to manage than one person can reasonably carry.

We need another capable adult who can learn what is already working, help maintain a calm and productive homeschool environment, and take meaningful responsibility off Mom’s plate.

About the position

We are open to shaping the position around the strengths of the person we hire.

One applicant may be strongest as a teacher who can provide instruction, supervise assignments, organize curriculum, and help the children stay focused and on schedule.

Another may be strongest as a family assistant who can supervise established schoolwork while also helping with transportation, errands, laundry, scheduling, organization, and other practical responsibilities.

The right person may be able to do some of both.

We do not expect applicants to claim they are equally good at everything. We would rather have honest conversations about what you do well, what you enjoy, and what responsibilities would make this a good long-term fit.

Possible responsibilities

Depending on the final structure of the position, responsibilities may include:

Direct teaching or tutoring
Supervising established homeschool work
Checking assignments and monitoring progress
Organizing curriculum, supplies, and schedules
Establishing routines and accountability
Helping children work through procrastination or resistance
Transporting children to classes and activities
Running family-related errands
Managing appointments and schedules
Helping with laundry and household organization
Simple meal preparation or kitchen cleanup
Occasional childcare or newborn assistance

This is not primarily a housekeeping or newborn-nanny position. Household and childcare responsibilities may be included, but the exact duties will be discussed and agreed upon before hiring.

The person we are looking for

The right person will likely be:

Warm and encouraging without being overly permissive
Calm and confident when children resist or negotiate
Dependable, organized, and able to follow through
Comfortable taking initiative without taking over
Respectful of the homeschool system Mom has already developed
Able to work professionally and discreetly inside a private family home
Comfortable receiving direction and communicating honestly
Interested in becoming a reliable, long-term part of our family’s support system

Relevant experience could come from teaching, homeschooling, tutoring, nannying, family assistance, household management, coaching, ministry, or another setting involving children.

A teaching certificate is welcome but not required. Judgment, reliability, experience, communication, and the ability to work effectively with children matter more to us.

Christian home environment

Our homeschool includes prayer, Bible study, and instruction from a Christian worldview. The person hired must be willing to respectfully support and participate in assigned activities that are part of that environment.

Our home is also tobacco-free and fragrance-sensitive. The employee must be able to avoid smoking, vaping, tobacco use, and wearing scented products while working.

Schedule and compensation

We are considering both part-time and nearly full-time applicants.

Approximately 15 to 40 hours per week
Primarily weekday daytime hours
Some flexibility in the exact days and schedule

Compensation will depend on experience, responsibilities, schedule, and the level of independence involved.

A narrower homeschool-helper or family-support position may fall toward the lower part of the range. A person who can independently manage teaching, routines, transportation, organization, and broader family-assistant responsibilities may fall toward the upper part.

Hiring process

Because this person will work closely with our children and inside our home, we use a thorough, multi-step hiring process.

Applicants who pass the initial review will be invited to complete a detailed application. Selected candidates will then participate in a phone interview, an in-person interview, reference checks, and a paid working interview.

Finalists must be willing to complete a criminal background screening. Applicants being considered for driving responsibilities must also provide proof of a valid driver’s license, appropriate automobile insurance, and an acceptable driving history.
