Position Overview
The IT Business Systems Analyst will work closely with Project Managers, business stakeholders, development teams, and other project participants to define business needs, document requirements, support solution development, and help ensure successful project delivery.
The Business Analyst will elicit and document business requirements, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria while managing and refining the product backlog. For upcoming sprints, the analyst will decompose user stories into actionable requirements that are clearly understood by the development team.
This role requires an individual who can ask probing questions, understand business processes, identify gaps and opportunities, and translate business needs into clear technical requirements. The analyst will also recommend process improvements that increase efficiency, effectiveness, and value for end users.
Core Responsibilities
· Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders, project teams, technical teams, and other stakeholders.
· Gather, analyze, document, validate, and manage business and system requirements.
· Facilitate requirements-gathering sessions with business stakeholders and users.
· Define and maintain features, user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria, and supporting project artifacts.
· Manage and refine the product backlog in support of an iterative Agile development methodology.
· Decompose user stories into development-ready requirements for upcoming sprints.
· Lead discussions with development teams to clarify requirements, business rules, and acceptance criteria.
· Ask probing questions to fully understand business needs and identify potential impacts, risks, dependencies, and opportunities.
· Assess current business capabilities, processes, and technology needs.
· Document current-state and future-state business processes.
· Identify opportunities for workflow, productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness improvements.
· Work with technical teams to evaluate and recommend solution approaches that maximize business value.
· Assist with evaluating potential vendor products and technology solutions.
· Support development teams with task creation, estimation, requirements clarification, and technical roadblocks.
· Ensure business and system requirements are effectively implemented within the proposed solution.
· Lead the analysis and testing components of assigned projects.
· Develop and maintain project testing plans using an iterative development approach.
· Facilitate and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
· Research and respond to questions related to defined project work, system functionality, defects, and business requirements.
· Assist with triaging post-implementation issues and coordinating the appropriate resources for resolution.
· Identify gaps between existing data and future-state data requirements.
· Model data requirements or collaborate with appropriate technical resources to ensure data supports the proposed solution.
· Model expected system interactions and workflows, particularly for software development projects.
· Create mockups or wireframes of proposed user interfaces as needed.
· Develop user scenarios and use cases in collaboration with project stakeholders.
· Communicate business and technical impacts, dependencies, risks, and recommendations related to prioritization decisions.
· Accurately and concisely communicate issues, questions, recommendations, and project information to stakeholders, technical teams, and management.
· Assist Project Managers with project documentation, planning, expectations, and overall project execution.
· Work with business stakeholders to manage expectations regarding scope, priorities, requirements, and project completion.
· Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying and documenting recommendations for current and future system enhancements.
· Assist business users with updating business processes, procedures, and related documentation.
· Promote and support the adoption of consistent Business Analysis practices and processes.
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Information Technology, Business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
· 2–3+ years of experience working with business stakeholders to identify, analyze, and document technology needs and facilitate solutions.
· Experience with business analysis, requirements gathering, requirements definition, and requirements validation.
· Experience working in an Agile or iterative software development environment.
· Experience developing user stories, acceptance criteria, use cases, and business process documentation.
· Strong analytical, critical thinking, design, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to understand business processes and translate business requirements into actionable technical requirements.
· Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision.
· Ability to quickly learn new technologies and apply them to business situations.
· Strong collaboration and team-building skills.
· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet project deadlines.
· Strong listening skills with the ability to seek clarification and ask effective follow-up questions.
· Ability to establish strong working relationships with business and technical stakeholders.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to communicate effectively with audiences ranging from technical subject matter experts to executive-level stakeholders.
Work Location
This position is primarily remote. Candidates must be available to attend a mandatory onsite meeting in Frankfort, Kentucky approximately 1–2 times per year.
