Responsibilities & Duties for Vocational Specialist:
- Responsible for the coordination, implementation, and maintenance of the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team; completion and maintaining documentation in accordance with state/federal regulations and agency policy.
- Complete access to all consumer related PHI (Protected Health Information). Utilization of information will be in accordance with HIPAA Regulations regarding use limitation, disclosure and requests for consumer PHI.
- Connect and prepare ACT clients for job readiness programs, workshops, and educational opportunities. Facilitate targeted training on mock interviewing, resume building and application navigation.
- Provide coaching to help with professional communication and presentation to build client confidence and reduce interview-related anxiety,
- Engage clients in conversations about the therapeutic and financial benefits of work and school.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of ACT team services.
- Develops treatment/service in coordination with ACT Treatment, coordinates admission and discharges from inpatient treatment.
- Collaborates and liaisons with law enforcement officers, local hospitals, medical providers, and others in the planning, provision, and evaluation of these services.
- Participates in daily ACT treatment team meetings to discuss client treatment goal and needs.
- Collaborates with other members of ACT Team to provide comprehensive mental health and supportive services to clients.
- Produces client-related service records and maintains accurate and up-to-date documentation consistent with agency policies and procedures.
- Receives clinical and procedural guidance from ACT Team Leader.
- Required to provide back-up ACT coverage on the rotational schedule as appropriate to hours worked.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor which are consistent with the position and in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of adult and geriatric psychology in behavioral health (mental health and substance abuse) and developmental services; of primary models for treatment of individuals having these problems; of appropriate methodologies for assessing psychopathology; and, of crisis intervention theory and techniques, and their application to individuals in crisis. Considerable knowledge of mental health concepts, symptoms, dynamics, and related treatment aspects and of various therapeutic interventions and counseling techniques. Working knowledge of group process and the dynamics of group work, and of crisis intervention techniques. Working knowledge of community systems and resources and inter-agency networking. Some knowledge of the assertive community treatment model.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with professional, clinical experience in the provision of substance abuse treatment or a combination of education, training, and experience indicating the possession of essential knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
- Identify and document an individual’s need for resources, services and other supports.

Identify and document how resources, services and natural supports such as family can be utilized to promote achievement of a consumer’s personal habilitative/rehabilitative and life goals.

Coordinate provision of services by diverse public and private providers.

Observe, report and record consumer behaviors.

Assess and plan for the service needs of MH/MR/SA consumers.

Assess, secure, and assist with job placements tailored to individuals with severe mental illness.

Deliver employment support to ensure job readiness and job retention.

Conduct person-centered vocational assessments to understand the client’s strengths, preferences, past work history, and goals.
