Full Job Description

SUMMARY

The mission of the Fresno/Clovis Convention and Visitors Bureau (dba Visit Fresno County), a destination marketing organization, is to promote the Fresno/Clovis region to all travel markets. In partnership with the hospitality industry, Visit Fresno County generates increased visitor spending, local tax receipts and job development.

Under the direction of the Vice President and the CEO, the Director of Sales will coordinate sales-related activities to sell and promote the facilities in the cities of Fresno and Clovis to special interest groups as a destination choice for meetings, conventions and other events. The Director of Sales will oversee the efforts of the sales department to ensure that Fresno and Clovis are being successfully connected to events-rights holders in order to generate the maximum number of annual room nights. Additionally, the Director of Sales is responsible for maintaining productive and effective relationships with area hotel staff, municipally and privately owned facilities and local organizations of all kinds that may have potential events to bring to Fresno and Clovis. The Director of Sales position is a 100% in-office position and is not eligible for remote work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following)

· Oversees the development of sales goals for the sales staff and works with them to meet and exceed those goals.

· Assigns event RFPs to sales managers and tracks the progress of those RFPs accordingly.

· Conducts meetings with sales staff to review data, evaluate progress on leads, pipeline development and other objectives as necessary.

· Travels to key industry tradeshows and events (in the local market and beyond) to promote Fresno & Clovis as a destination choice for meetings, conventions, sports events and other relevant events.

· In collaboration with the Vice President, develops and oversees an annual budget for the department.

· Works with the Research Specialist to ensure the overall health of Visit Fresno County’s CRM.

· Actively works to uncover new sources of room night generating events to give to sales managers through effective business development techniques, including creating new partnerships with targeted community partners and expanding existing partnerships.

· Develops, maintains and expands strong relationships with Fresno/Clovis hoteliers, including sales and support staff at the respective hotels and motels.

· Conducts reviews with sales team, including annual reviews and sales pipeline development goals.

· Creates a defined sales operational framework that includes clear team goals, measurable performance metrics, concise reports that provide meaningful and actionable insights for the team and consistent and the required processes that allow for consistency, accountability and adaptability in the sales department.

· Works in partnership with the marketing department to develop solid, productive strategies for advertising options, exemplary tradeshow presence and in other aspects when necessary.

· Contributes actionable, innovative ideas for organizational improvement on a regular basis and encourages the sales team to do the same.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Sales oversees all members of the sales team, including sales managers and sales support staff.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

· Client and hotel sales servicing.

· Convention center operations and convention center relationship with Visit Fresno County.

· Negotiating and contracting processes and best practices.

· Customer service and business etiquette.

· Sales pipeline development techniques.

· Local market conditions and opportunities for client development, as well as in-depth knowledge of competitor markets.

Ability to:

Proactively plan, manage and prioritize activities and goals, and work in collaboration with other departments and external stakeholders.
Represent Visit Fresno County in a professional, courteous manner.
Maintain extensive knowledge of the Fresno/Clovis area, including facility and hotel development.
Obtain information from hoteliers, community partners, events rights holders, venue operators etc. to determine what improvements, collaborations and other objectives are required in order to further the goals of Visit Fresno County.
Manage and interpret sales data from various sources, including Simpleview, Demand 360, Key Data and other data platforms utilized by the organization.
Play an active role with key industry and local organizations.
Work both independently and collaboratively and be able to switch seamlessly between the two.
Evaluate department effectiveness and make necessary changes with sales managers to achieve room night goals.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION GUIDELINES

Experience and/or Education:

· 4-5 years hotel sales experience or 4-5 years’ experience coordinating events, meetings, and or conventions/conferences.

· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning or the equivalent of 4 years of hotel, DMO, or convention center sales experience.

· 2-3 years of leadership experience managing direct reports

License or Certificate:

Possession of a valid California driver’s license and the ability to be insurable under Visit Fresno County’s automobile insurance plan at the standard rate.

The position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, bending, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. Also required are grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading written reports and work-related documents. Acute hearing is required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Thework environment characteristics described are high volume and fast paced. Employee must have the ability to work with a diverse population and in a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential function. This position requires after-hours events, occasional work on weekends and both local and long-distance travel via car and plane. The amount of travel varies depending on departmental and organizational goals.

Pay: $81,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
