POSITION TITLE: High School Bigs Program Coordinator

WORK SCHEDULE: Daytime, evenings & occasional weekends

COUNTY: Fresno County

OFFICE LOCATION: Fresno, CA

SUPERVISOR: Director of High School Bigs Programs

STARTING SALARY: $22.00 / hourly

TYPE: Regular, Full-Time

Agency Overview:

For more than 50 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central California has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, professionally supported matches between volunteers (Bigs) and youth (Littles), ages 6 through 18. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

Program Overview:

The High School Bigs Program is a 1:1 youth mentoring program, where a specially selected high school student (volunteer) is matched with an elementary school student (clients) to form a positive mentoring relationship (match). Matches meet weekly after school for 90 minutes at a designated school site, with agency staff supervision.

Qualifications:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in social services or related field preferred or 5 years' experience working in related field. Proficiency in Outlook and Microsoft Office including Excel, Power Point, and Word. Must have a vehicle, valid driver’s license and meet state required automobile insurance minimums. Experience working with database systems is a plus and possess the ability to collect meaningful data and draw solid conclusions. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will oversee multiple High School Bigs Program sites within the assigned county. Responsibilities include conducting outreach and recruitment of high school volunteers, managing the application and enrollment process for volunteers and youth participants, and collaborating with administrators at partnering school sites.

Working alongside a Program Assistant, the Program Coordinator will facilitate weekly after-school mentoring activities, maintain accurate attendance records, input program data, and document match interactions and activities on a weekly basis. The position is also responsible for providing ongoing case management to ensure child safety, foster positive youth outcomes, support healthy mentoring relationships between elementary-aged youth and high school volunteers, and build strong rapport with youth, volunteers, families, and school partners. Additional responsibilities include performing other duties as assigned to support the success of the High School Bigs Program.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong commitment to customer service, both in person and over the phone.
Ability to build positive relationships and work effectively with diverse populations in multicultural environments.
Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in all aspects of program operations.
Build and sustain positive mentoring relationships with youth, volunteers, families, and school partners.
Strong interpersonal skills, including coaching, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and providing ongoing support.
Collaborate effectively with agency staff, school personnel, and community partners to achieve program goals.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Adapt quickly to changing priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Accurately collect, analyze, and document program data while maintaining detailed records.

Work Environment

Routine office environment with afternoons at a designated school site. Flexible work hours meet needs of agency, with hours likely to be 9 AM to 6 PM. Work on weekends is not typical, however the need to work an occasional Saturdays exists. Fast-paced work environment. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. If home visitation is indicated, must travel to local communities and neighborhoods.

Compensation:
Compensation per hour as stated in the description. Mileage for work-related business travel will be compensated at the current federal rate. Mileage for work-related business trips will be compensated at the current federal rate. Company cell phones will be provided to conduct business calls, texts, and emails. Accumulation of Paid Time Off (PTO) equal to 11 paid holidays and 2 weeks’ paid vacation. A generous health care package, life insurance, and retirement plan are offered after the probationary period.
