Job Purpose
The HR Generalist/HRBP serves as the day-to-day Human Resources liaison for assigned ROMCO regions, supporting the organization’s workforce across multiple branch locations. This role partners with managers and employees to support onboarding, employee relations, complaints, disciplinary actions, performance management, policy interpretation, HR process execution, and regional HR projects. The HR Business Partner works closely with the HR Manager and the broader HR team to deliver consistent, compliant, practical, and employee-focused HR support while helping branch leaders address workforce needs and maintain positive employee relations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Regional HR Partnership & Branch Support
- Serve as the primary day-to-day HR liaison for assigned ROMCO regions, which may include up to approximately eight branch locations.
- Build trusted working relationships with branch managers, department leaders, employees, and HR team members to support consistent HR service delivery.
- Provide practical HR guidance to managers and employees on policies, procedures, employment practices, and employee lifecycle processes.
- Partner with the HR Manager to identify regional trends, recurring issues, and opportunities to improve HR processes, communication, and manager support.
- Coordinate with other HR team members, including recruiting, learning and development, talent, payroll, benefits, and HRIS resources, to ensure branch needs are addressed timely and accurately.
Onboarding, Employee Lifecycle, & HR Process Execution
- Coordinate and support onboarding activities for assigned regions, including processing pre-employment checks, new hire communication, conducting new hire orientation, branch readiness, manager follow-up, and employee experience checkpoints.
- Support employee lifecycle transactions such as transfers, promotions, job changes, separations, status changes, and related documentation.
- Execute assigned HR business processes and projects accurately and within established timelines.
- Partner with payroll, benefits, recruiting, HRIS, and operations to ensure employee data, documentation, and transactions are complete and accurate.
- Assist with HR communications, compliance follow-up, policy acknowledgments, employee record maintenance, and other recurring HR processes.
Employee Relations, Complaints & Investigations
- Respond to employee concerns, workplace complaints, and manager questions in a timely, professional, and confidential manner.
- Conduct or support employee relations reviews and workplace investigations, including gathering information, documenting findings, and recommending appropriate next steps.
- Coach managers on employee relations matters, including communication concerns, attendance, conduct, performance, conflict resolution, and documentation expectations.
- Support the consistent application of company policies, handbook provisions, and applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Escalate higher-risk matters, complex complaints, legal concerns, or sensitive employee relations issues to the HR Manager, or VP of HR as appropriate.
Manager Support, Performance & Disciplinary Actions
- Provide guidance to managers on performance concerns, corrective action, disciplinary documentation, terminations, and employee coaching conversations.
- Review disciplinary action documentation for consistency, clarity, policy alignment, and appropriate escalation before issuance when needed.
- Support managers in addressing attendance, conduct, performance, safety-related behavior concerns, and other workplace issues in a fair and timely manner.
- Partner with managers to identify practical solutions that support accountability, employee engagement, and operational needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of employee relations matters, coaching guidance, corrective actions, and related HR activities.
HR Projects, Programs & Specialized Support
- Participate in HR projects, process improvements, policy rollouts, employee communication initiatives, compliance activities, and department priorities as assigned.
- Serve as a backup to the other HR team members to ensure continuity of HR support across regions and branch locations.
- May serve as a department resource or coordinator for assigned specialty areas, such as benefits administration support, HRIS coordination, onboarding process improvement, compliance tracking, or employee records.
- Assist with training managers on HR processes, documentation expectations, employee relations practices, and system-related procedures.
Compliance, Documentation & HR Systems
- Maintain accurate and confidential HR records, employee relations documentation, personnel file materials, and system data in accordance with company practices and legal requirements.
- Use HRIS and other HR systems to enter, update, review, and report employee information as assigned.
- Support compliance-related activities, including employment documentation, required acknowledgments, leave coordination support, and policy administration.
- Identify process gaps, data inconsistencies, and recurring service issues and recommend improvements to the HR Manager.
Other Duties
- Partner closely with the HR Manager, VP of HR, and HR team members to support consistent HR operations and employee experience.
- Perform other HR-related duties, projects, and administrative responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of employee relations practices, HR operations, onboarding, performance management, and employment documentation.
- Ability to provide practical, balanced, and business-focused HR guidance while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Strong communication, listening, coaching, documentation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to build trust and credibility with branch managers, employees, and HR team members across multiple locations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, employee concerns, and HR projects in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
- Knowledge of common federal, state, and local employment laws and ability to recognize when matters should be escalated.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Outlook, reporting tools, and electronic employee records
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably in an HR Generalist, HR Business Partner, or relevant role.
- Experience supporting managers and employees in a multi-location, operational, field service, equipment, construction, distribution, or similar environment preferred.
- Experience handling employee relations matters, workplace complaints, disciplinary actions, onboarding, policy interpretation, and HR process execution required.
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred but not required.
- Experience with HRIS, payroll, benefits, employee records, or reporting systems preferred. Workday and UKG experience a plus.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, sit, use hands to handle or feel, and operate standard office equipment. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally travel to branch locations. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Working Conditions and Additional Requirements
This job operates primarily in an office environment with regular interaction with branch managers, employees, and HR team members. Office hours are generally from 8:00am to 5:00pm, with occasional needs outside standard business hours to support employee relations matters, meetings, training, onboarding, investigations, or projects. Travel to assigned branch locations may be required. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and related office technology. While visiting branch or operational locations, the employee may be exposed to shop, warehouse, yard, or equipment environments, including noise, moving equipment, fumes, airborne particles, or other typical branch conditions.
