**Contract position/must use own vehicle - mileage is reimbursed
This is a field-based role requiring daily travel using the employee's personal vehicle throughout the assigned Northeast Alabama market, including Centre, Leesburg, Sand Rock, Gaylesville, Collinsville, Crossville, Aroney, Rhinehart, Whorton, and surrounding communities. Candidates should be comfortable traveling throughout Cherokee and DeKalb Counties and working at multiple active construction sites. Mileage reimbursement is provided for approved business travel. While the primary assignment is local to the designated market, occasional travel to other project locations within the United States may be required based on business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
* Construction Knowledge: Requires knowledge of construction processes.
* Inspection: Ability to inspect work.
* Redline Updates: Update red lines in real-time in GIS.
* Assistance: Be available to assist crews with questions, especially regarding placement methods.
* Oversight: Watch and keep things going, acting as an overall inspector.
* Reporting: Provide accurate production reporting.
* Data Collection: Gather real-time data (e.g., rock adder needs, plow to bore conversions, pictures, measurements) to expedite approvals and keep construction moving.
* No Splicing: They don't need to know how to read splicing diagrams.
OSP Field Inspector / OSP Construction Coordinator
Location: Local to assigned market
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through Broadstaff)
Travel: Primarily local travel within assigned market using personal vehicle; mileage reimbursed. Limited overnight travel may occur as business needs require. Hotel and meal expenses are reimbursable when approved. Based on discussions with TDS, the goal is to place inspectors close to their assigned markets to minimize travel requirements.
Position Overview
We are seeking OSP Field Inspectors / OSP Construction Coordinators to serve as the eyes and ears of the client's OSP Construction team in the field. These resources are not Construction Managers and will not be responsible for managing contractors or directing construction activities. Instead, they will function as field representatives supporting OSP Construction Coordinators by monitoring work progress, documenting construction activity, updating redlines, collecting field data, and facilitating real-time communication between construction crews and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections of fiber and telecommunications construction projects.
- Monitor daily contractor production activities and provide accurate production reporting.
- Update and maintain redline documentation based on field conditions.
- Capture and submit photos, measurements, and field observations to support construction decisions.
- Serve as the local field resource when OSP Construction Coordinators are not physically present in the market.
- Verify construction methods and document changes such as plow-to-bore conversions, rock adders, and other field modifications.
- Assist with issue identification and escalation to internal OSP Construction personnel.
- Support real-time communication between construction crews and client management teams.
- Ensure documentation is accurate, timely, and actionable.
- Travel throughout assigned geographic territory to visit active construction sites.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in OSP telecom construction, utility construction, or fiber deployment environments.
- Understanding of fiber construction practices including underground and aerial construction.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, maps, and redlines.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable using mobile applications, tablets, cameras, and basic computer software.
- Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle.
- Ability to travel within assigned territory daily.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as an OSP Inspector, Field Inspector, Field Coordinator, OSP Construction Coordinator, or OSP Field Engineer.
- Experience supporting broadband, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), or telecommunications construction projects.
- GIS exposure or experience updating field redlines and as-built documentation.
- Familiarity with contractor oversight and production tracking.
