Full Job Description

Job Summary

Desert View Family Medicine is looking for an experienced Medical Assistant who is ready to practice at the top of their scope in a physician-led, independent family medicine practice.

This is not a high-turnover, run-the-rooms-and-go position. Our MAs are paired with their providers, trusted with real clinical responsibility, and treated as the backbone of the visit — not as interchangeable support staff. If you are the MA other MAs come to with questions, the one who catches the missing prior auth before it becomes a problem, and the one patients ask for by name, we want to talk to you.

We are an eight-provider practice with deep roots in the East Valley, a stable and tenured clinical team, and a genuine commitment to doing primary care well. We invest in our staff, we pay competitively, and we keep our promises about schedules and workload.

About the Practice

Desert View Family Medicine is an independent, physician-owned family medicine practice serving patients across the Gilbert and greater Phoenix area. We provide full-spectrum primary care — pediatrics through geriatrics — with a strong emphasis on continuity, preventive care, and chronic disease management.

A few things that set us apart:

Independent and physician-led. Clinical decisions are made in the exam room, not in a corporate policy manual.
Advanced primary care programs. We run structured Chronic Care Management and Remote Patient Monitoring programs, participate in value-based care and ACO quality initiatives, and support clinical research — which means our MAs get exposure to work that most family medicine offices never touch.
Modern systems. We use athenaOne, integrated digital patient communication, and current in-house point-of-care testing. You will not be fighting outdated technology all day.
Stability. Our providers and staff stay. We are hiring to grow, not to backfill churn.

Job Description

As a Medical Assistant, you are the operational engine of your provider's clinic day. You own patient flow, clinical intake, in-office procedures, documentation support, and the follow-through that happens after the patient leaves — refills, results, referrals, and outreach.

You will work directly alongside a physician or advanced practice provider, managing a full family medicine panel that spans well-child visits, annual wellness exams, chronic disease follow-ups, acute complaints, and preventive care gaps. You will be expected to anticipate what your provider needs before they ask, keep the schedule moving without rushing patients, and be a reliable, calm presence in a busy clinic.

We are looking for someone with enough experience to work independently on day one and enough judgment to know when to escalate. In exchange, you get autonomy, a leadership team that listens, and a practice that will support your continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Support

Room patients efficiently and accurately; obtain and document vital signs, chief complaint, medication reconciliation, allergies, and pertinent history
Perform point-of-care testing (rapid strep, influenza, COVID, urinalysis, A1c, INR, urine pregnancy, etc.) per protocol
Administer injections, immunizations, and medications as directed, including proper documentation in the immunization registry
Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection; label, process, and route specimens to reference labs correctly
Assist providers with in-office procedures (EKGs, spirometry, skin procedures, joint injections, wound care, ear lavage, biometric screenings)
Perform standardized clinical screenings (depression/PHQ, fall risk, cognitive, developmental) and record results accurately

Patient Flow & Clinic Operations

Manage the daily schedule for your assigned provider; identify and resolve bottlenecks before they compound
Prepare rooms, stock supplies, and maintain a clean, compliant clinical environment
Complete pre-visit planning and chart prep — flag open care gaps, overdue labs, needed screenings, and outstanding referrals ahead of the visit

Documentation & EMR

Accurately document all clinical activity in AthenaOne in real time
Support provider documentation workflows, order entry, and closing the loop on pended orders
Maintain complete, timely, and audit-ready charting consistent with practice and payer requirements

Care Coordination & Follow-Through

Process prescription refill requests and prior authorizations, tracking each to resolution
Triage and route incoming patient messages and clinical phone calls under provider direction
Communicate lab and imaging results to patients per provider instruction
Coordinate referrals to specialists, imaging, DME, and ancillary services, and follow up on outstanding records
Support Chronic Care Management, Remote Patient Monitoring, and quality/care-gap outreach initiatives

Team & Compliance

Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality in all interactions
Follow infection control, safety, and emergency response protocols
Contribute to onboarding and mentoring of newer clinical staff
Participate in practice quality improvement, workflow redesign, and team meetings — we want your input, and we act on it

Pay: $24.00 - $25.00 per hour
