Full Job Description

Overview

Seeking a chef for a small eatery/store. Looking for a motivated individual to create salads and protein items that will go into our display cases daily. This is an opportunity for someone to be in a great friendly environment, create various dishes, have freedom to experiment. We run an Eatery/Whole Animal highend butcher shop in Bernardsville NJ. Have great equipment and great staff. Looking to put together an awesome team. All our meats are pastured, organic or grass fed. All our products speak for themselves. NO seed oils not garbage in our food. Please apply we would love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

Lead food preparation and cooking activities to produce high-quality dishes aligned with menu standards and customer expectations.
Supervise kitchen staff, including training, mentoring, and scheduling to ensure smooth shift operations.
Manage inventory control, including ordering supplies, monitoring stock levels, and minimizing waste to optimize food costs.
Oversee food safety practices and maintain compliance with health regulations through proper handling, storage, and sanitation procedures.
Collaborate on menu planning and development to introduce innovative offerings that appeal to diverse tastes.
Coordinate catering events and banquet services, ensuring timely delivery of exceptional culinary presentations.
Monitor kitchen performance metrics, address operational challenges promptly, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Proven experience in fine dining establishments with strong culinary skills and a passion for excellence.
Demonstrated supervisory experience managing kitchen teams in high-volume settings.
Extensive knowledge of food production techniques, dietary requirements, and food safety standards.
Experience with inventory management, cost control, and food handling procedures.
Strong leadership abilities with excellent communication skills to motivate team members and coordinate shift activities effectively.
Background in restaurant management or food service management preferred; experience with catering or banquet services is a plus.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality standards.
