Position Summary
The Dental Sterilization Technician / Hygiene Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our clinical team. This individual is responsible for instrument sterilization, assisting the hygienist with patient care, and helping deliver an outstanding patient experience.
Responsibilities
Sterilization & Infection Control
- Clean, disinfect, package, and sterilize dental instruments according to CDC and OSHA guidelines.
- Monitor and document sterilization cycles and biological testing.
- Maintain an organized sterilization center and instrument inventory.
- Ensure operatories are cleaned, disinfected, and fully prepared between patients.
- Dispose of biohazardous materials according to regulations.
Clinical Support
- Assist the hygienist with charting during periodontal maintenance and other procedures as needed.
- Escort patients to treatment rooms and help ensure their comfort.
- Take and record digital radiographs (certification required if applicable).
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and materials.
Inventory & Equipment
- Stock treatment rooms with supplies and instruments.
- Monitor inventory levels and notify management when supplies need replenishing.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of dental equipment.
- Ensure all clinical areas remain clean, organized, and professional.
Qualifications
- Dental assisting experience preferred (sterilization experience considered).
- Knowledge of dental instruments and infection control procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Positive attitude with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Dependable and punctual in a fast-paced environment.
- X-ray certification preferred (if applicable).
