Full Job Description

Saint Joseph's College seeks a dynamic and engaged person for the position of Director of the Counseling Center.

This full-time position is responsible for supporting the Counseling Center by:

Promoting the personal development and well-being of students by:
- Providing short-term clinical services, including intake, assessment, treatment, case management, consultation, and rapid access services to students;
- Conducting risk assessments and crisis management services;
- Participating in after-hour, on-call emergency mental health consultation; and
- Assisting with prevention, outreach, and training programs to students and the campus community.
Coordinating the administration, planning, implementation, and assessment of the Counseling Center by:
- Developing and maintaining Counseling Center policies, procedures, and protocols in compliance with state and federal requirements, College policies and mission, and in keeping with professional best practices;
- Maintaining and overseeing departmental budget, expenditures, and contracts;
- Collecting, assessing, and reporting on Counseling Center utilization rates and efficacy;
- Evaluating campus mental health status via campus-wide screenings and assessments; and
- Planning, organizing, and implementing services that correspond to emerging and best practices and meet the behavioral and psychological needs of the community.
Supervises and supports clinical staff by:
- Recruiting and hiring qualified staff;
- Coaching and mentoring staff in setting goals, creating action plans, and time management while fostering a team environment;
- Providing clinical supervision;
- Promoting communications within the department by conducting regular staff meetings;
- Planning training and professional development opportunities and ensuring staff meet appropriate licensure/re-licensure requirements;
- Managing performance, coaching sessions, and disciplinary actions in a professional and timely manner;
- Managing timely approval of bi-weekly timesheets.
Acts as a liaison between the Counseling Center and the campus community, and coordinates broader mental health initiatives among college departments by:
- Providing mental health consultation services to college faculty and staff;
- Coordinating care, when appropriate;
- Communicating the function and mission of the Counseling Center to campus stakeholders;
- Participating on the Student Intervention Team;
- Providing mental health-related training and input to other departments and constituents; and
- Assisting and supporting programming for the Division of Student Life.

Education and Experience:

Requirements include a doctoral or master’s degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or related field, independent licensure in Maine, and at least 5 years prior experience in a clinical setting, college/university counseling center preferred. Experience with Medicat or other electronic medical records platforms preferred.

Supervision and Scheduling Demands:

This is a full-time 12-month position with estimated regular hours of 35 per week. The position is a very independent one that receives modest supervision. There is occasional evening and weekend work that requires being on campus. In addition, during the academic year the individual will participate in after hours and weekend on-call rotation. Ongoing professional education is essential to maintain professional licensure.

Strong knowledge of computer programs including Google Platform, Excel and Web Access

Demonstrated organization and time management skills with attention to detail, including the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks to completion

Possess a positive attitude to foster a cohesive working environment
Must have the ability to foresee issues before they arise and accommodate with solutions
