Summary:

To provide quality customer service by directing and supervising all functions and activities of the Deli Department in the absence of the Deli Manager; to maintain and operate the Deli Department in an efficient manner within store policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs duties in a safe and efficient manner.
Responsible for performing all the duties and job functions of an experienced Deli Clerk (see corresponding position description).
In the absence of a Deli Manager, is responsible for overall operations of the department.
Verifies the receiving and unloading of Deli merchandise to:
- Ensure that Deli receiving accurately reflects the items and counts listed on vendor invoices
- Ensure accurate billing and pricing
- Confirm quality, code dates, counts, and condition
- Enforce receiving procedures according to store policy
Assists with ordering and maintaining the inventory to ensure freshness, product quality, and turnover to maximize sales and minimize out-of-stocks or overstocks.
Verifies that refrigerated cases and other displays are stocked and properly faced at all times in accordance with department standards.
Displays merchandise in an attractive, neat, and colorful manner.
Verifies that perishable merchandise is rotated in accordance with department policies and product code dates.
Verifies that all signs and prices are maintained accurately and are correctly positioned with each respective product.
Handles damaged and spoiled products according to department procedures and assists in controlling the level of these goods.
Verifies Front-End (POS) accuracy and integrity.
Verifies and enforces a regular and effective housekeeping and sanitation program that meets the standards established by the department and all applicable health rules and regulations.
Assists with performance appraisals, the counseling program, and the training of new employees.
Participates in training activities to increase personal skill levels, to improve overall department processes and customer service.
Meets the physical requirements to perform the job functions listed above.
Performs other duties as requested or assigned.

Education/Experience:
High school education.
Experience in Deli Department operations.
Is thoroughly familiar with all products carried in the Deli Department.
