Position Overview:
This position is located in the Student Success Center and reports to the Director of Student Success and Academic Advising. The position will maintain a partial academic advising caseload. Additionally, the Academic Advisor and Tutoring Services Coordinator will coordinate the operations of the University’s Tutoring Services (excluding the Writing Center), supporting a range of academic assistance programs including one-on-one tutoring, online tutoring, group tutoring sessions, and academic coaching. The Academic Advisor and Tutoring Services Coordinator will help implement inclusive, data driven academic support for all UMN Crookston students. This position will collaborate across campus with a variety of academic, student affairs, and other departments.

Job Duties
General Academic Advising (45%)
-
Provide dedicated support to both online and on-campus students by applying knowledge of curricular options, requirements, and policies to assist an assigned advising caseload, while supporting comprehensive advising efforts through the Student Success Center.

Review student records and progress, making short-term registration suggestions and multi-semester plans that promote degree progress and attainment while optimizing collegiate engagement experiences.

As appropriate, meet with students in-person or via virtual video conferencing platforms, to provide personalized guidance on course selection, degree progress, transfer course evaluations, and academic goal-setting.

Cultivate trusting relationships and foster a strong sense of campus belonging by utilizing active listening, empathy, and supportive inquiry across both in-person and virtual student interactions.

Monitor student progress in order to proactively and, when necessary, intrusively intervene, advocate, and recommend resources and solutions to a variety of academic situations.
- Communicate applicable academic policies. Guide students through policy petitions when appropriate.
- In collaboration with faculty, stay up to date on curriculum for assigned programs.
- In coordination with the Office of Admissions, complete unofficial transfer pre-evaluations for potential applicants, informing about requirements, prior transfer work that meets criteria, and estimate the amount of credits remaining to complete a requested degree program at UMN Crookston.
- Provide input to the academic advising team on the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of advising systems and processes.
Tutoring Services Coordinator (45%)

Coordinate the daily operations of Academic Subject Tutoring, ensuring efficient scheduling, communication, and service delivery.

Maintain and update professional development and training modules for peer tutors, covering pedagogy, academic support best practices, equity/inclusion, feedback strategies, content-specific tutoring, and use of learning technologies.

Serve as a mentor and resource to peer tutors; mediate performance or student-related challenges; promote a collaborative and growth-oriented culture among staff.

Observe tutoring sessions (in person and/or online), provide feedback to tutors, and facilitate reflective practices and improvement plans.
-
Work closely with the Director of the Student Success Center to ensure alignment of tutor training and supervision practices with departmental goals and institutional policies and with best practices and standards, such as CRLA Certification.

Contribute to the development of the tutoring services budget and oversee responsible resource allocation in collaboration with the Director of Student Success.

Collaborate with faculty, departments, and other campus partners to align tutoring with academic needs.
Leadership (10%)

Contribute toward Student Success Center program development and evaluation metrics.

Actively contribute to a positive, collaborative, and student-focused SSC office culture, assisting with the overall work of the team as needed.

Create and utilize a network of relationships with faculty, student affairs educators, and other campus staff to collaborate on a connected system of referrals for robust academic support.

Promote Student Success Center initiatives through outreach, presentations, and campus communications.
-
Represent the office on committees, task forces, special projects, and other working groups, as designated by the Director of Student Success.

Leverage existing technology to foster better outreach to students to promote student success.
- Remain current and involved with comprehensive and function-specific professional associations and emerging trends in the field.
