Tolman's Meats, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician at our USDA-inspected production facility. Essential job functions include:
● Complete preventive and reactive maintenance on equipment and facility including but not limited to electrical, hardware, and refrigeration.
● Coordinate with contractors for routine or emergency maintenance or repair as needed.
● Work with management for purchasing or replacing tooling, equipment and facility maintenance and repairs.
● Prompt reaction to high temperature alarms from cooling units after standard hours to prevent product loss.
● Work with Production Coordinator and General Manager to arrange downtime for scheduled maintenance.
● Maintain highest level of food safety as possible/practicable during maintenance events.
● Perform duties using OSHA and MIOSHA safety standards.
● Consistent and reliable attendance.
● Other duties as assigned.
Hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 5:30am to 3:00pm.

The job operates both in an office as well as in a refrigerated food production (45°F) and warehouse setting (35°F). The floor surface is concrete. The noise level is moderate with no vibration. Material movement takes place throughout the facility.
● Punctuality, dependability, and flexibility are critical to this role.

● Demonstrated machine / mechanical troubleshooting and repair required.
● Demonstrated basic understanding of electric circuitry, troubleshooting, and repair preferred, including 480v 3 phase, and 240v. 3 phase systems, and machine controls.
● Demonstrated commercial refrigeration system / HVAC maintenance and troubleshooting highly desired.
● Basic plumbing, faucets, flush valves, and drain cleaning experience.
● Basic sheet metal repair, other basic facilities maintenance duties experience.
● Ability to use multimeter, hand, power, and other construction trade tools.
● Extensive knowledge of the tools, methods and materials used in building maintenance work.
● Excellent interpersonal, leadership, problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.
● Stable and progressive work history; strong work ethic.
● High school diploma (or equivalent).
● First Aid/AED Certificate (or willing to be trained).
● Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends, weekdays and holidays.
● Have a driver’s license.
● Ability to pass drivers background check, drug screen, operate light to heavy machinery, vehicles, and equipment.
● Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
● Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form, receive and give instructions, and prepare work orders and reports, including via the use of a computer or other device.
● Ability to work respectfully and productively with all staff, maintaining a high degree of professionalism and camaraderie.
● Ability to work under pressure with a high level of patience. Present a calm demeanor.
● Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics for troubleshooting.
● Ability to accept and learn new processes, technology, or techniques.
● Ability to work independently and direct the work of others.

● The drive to understand the root cause of issues and develop and enhance processes.
● Have reliable transportation.
● Ability to meet physical demands of the position, including use of ladders or lifts.
● Continuous standing and walking for up to 8 hours.

● Frequent climbing of steps/ladders.
