Eligibility Specialist

At Siskiyou Community Health Center (SCHC), our work is about more than healthcare. It’s about helping people overcome barriers, understand their options, and connect with services that can make a real difference in their lives.

We’re looking for an Eligibility Specialist who enjoys helping people, solving problems, and making complicated processes easier to navigate. In this role, you’ll work directly with patients and community partners to help individuals access the Oregon Health Plan and SCHC’s Sliding Fee Discount Program.

For someone without health insurance, figuring out how to get coverage can feel overwhelming. You’ll be the person who helps make that process clearer and more manageable.

Whether you’re helping a patient complete an application, answering questions about available programs, checking the status of coverage, or connecting with people at a community event, your work helps remove barriers to healthcare.

This is a role where helping one person at a time can strengthen an entire community.

What You’ll Do

As an Eligibility Specialist, you will:

Identify and reach out to uninsured patients who may benefit from SCHC’s eligibility determination process.
Help individuals complete applications for the Oregon Health Plan and Sliding Fee Discount Program.
Answer questions from patients, community members, and coworkers about eligibility and enrollment.
Communicate with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) regarding application status.
Verify Oregon Health Plan coverage and accurately update patient insurance information.
Participate in community events and help connect people with available enrollment resources.
Build relationships with community partners to identify individuals who may benefit from enrollment assistance.
Participate in required meetings and training and share helpful information with your team.
Protect patient confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism, reliability, punctuality, and ethical conduct.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Within six months of joining SCHC, you’ll enroll in a Community Health Worker (CHW) course and work toward completing the requirements for Traditional Health Care Worker certification within your first year.

Successful certification will result in a pay increase, giving you an opportunity to expand your skills while growing your career in community health.

This is a 100% office-based position with a predictable work environment. Occasional evening or weekend work is required for community events or other needs, but the role is designed around a sustainable schedule that allows you to build a rewarding career while maintaining time for life outside of work.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who is organized, dependable, compassionate, and comfortable helping people from many different backgrounds.

Qualifications include:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic computer proficiency, including word processing and data entry.
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse individuals, including during stressful situations.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to prioritize responsibilities and stay on task with minimal supervision.
Willingness to complete required CHW training and Traditional Health Care Worker certification.
Ability to meet SCHC clinic health and immunization requirements.
Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment criminal background check and comprehensive drug screen.

The position also requires the ability to perform typical office and community-outreach activities, including sitting, lifting, bending, reaching, pushing, carrying, driving, and moving throughout the clinic. Vision and hearing must be corrected to within normal range. There is minimal potential exposure to infectious diseases.
