The Rogue Retreat AmeriCorps volunteers provide meaningful service that addresses critical community needs across Southern Oregon. These programs improve access to social services by reducing barriers to education, mentoring, job skills development, employment resources, family stability, and healthy futures. Volunteers spend 85% of their time serving in dedicated projects and 15% participating in civic engagement and professional development opportunities with their AmeriCorps cohort. Through their service, they also help recruit, retain, and support community volunteers at their host sites.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Youth Mental Health Members will focus on youth 18-25 at Rogue Retreat Shelters. These members will work alongside case managers to provide one-on-one support with housing, life skills, mental health, employment, and positive changes in behavior and knowledge. They will be critical to ensuring that our youth break the cycle of homelessness, which can last up to 20 years or longer without early intervention. They will assist youth in participating in supportive services, meeting with case management to track individual progress, and assist at-risk youth in creating better futures.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (to include, but not limited to)
● Collaborate with staff and participants to support homeless youth in the Rogue Retreat Shelter
● Assist youth in attending and accessing community resources by meeting with them one-on-one on a weekly basis.
● Provide attendance and behavioral coaching to assist youth in community involvement and integration.
● Attend the in-person Fundamentals of Peer Support to learn more about the population we serve, these learned skills will help shape content, evaluation, and feedback for future trainings and presentations.
● Provide educational and employment support as youth transition out of school and into young adult life, working towards individual self-sufficiency.
● Strengthen relationships between Rogue Retreat, Youth Participants, Teachers, Mentors, and families.
● Collaborate with partner organizations to provide services to homeless youth.
● Work with Case Managers to track individual progress and goal planning.
● Create an impact report providing visual charts, results, and numbers to capture qualitative and quantitative data of the project.
● Be a part of the Safety Committee and help present pieces of training to the committee.
● Complete and submit all necessary RR paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
● Attend and complete all RR training and service requirements including orientation, trainings, team meetings, and National Days of Service.
● Wear AmeriCorps apparel and/or appropriate identifiers while performing service or attending official events.
MARGINAL RESPONSIBILITIES (to include, but not limited to)
● Attend weekly department meetings.
● Attend all staff meetings via phone or in person as needed
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
● Minimum one-year experience working with vulnerable populations (ie. Homeless community, at-risk youth, families, peer mentorship, food bank, etc).
● Ability to work with diverse people and/or populations and treat each person with dignity and respect.
● Ability to collaborate on projects and meet deadlines.
● Regular and reliable attendance.
● Work under the supervision of the Social Enterprises manager and staff.
● Maintain confidentiality of Rogue Retreat’s employees, volunteer, partners, donors, and all information related to Rogue Retreat’s operations, finances, and public relations.
● Two years sober if you have had an active addiction.
● Ability to pass a drug test.
● Valid drivers’ license and clean driving record.
● 18 years of age or older, at the beginning of service term. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 24 to apply for the Youth Mental Health Corps. Applicants aged 26-29 may apply if they are actively engaged in an Educational Program at the time of Application.
● U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
● Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commitment to earning one prior to receiving an education award.
● Ability to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying.
● Must successfully pass a National Service Criminal History Check provided through Rogue Retreat.
● Have not previously served four terms in an AmeriCorps*State or National program. Members are only eligible for the equivalent of two full-time education awards in their lifetime. Applicants must disclose if they have ever been removed for cause from any national service program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
● Possess research skills to support the development of this program for Rogue Retreat.
● Possess verbal and written communication skills necessary to understand, interpret, disseminate, and explain written materials.
● Be Self-directed, willing to take initiative, detail-oriented, and organized.
● Ability to develop and implement training.
● The ability to maintain a courteous and friendly demeanor in high-stress situations.
● Bilingual in English and Spanish.
SERVICE CONDITIONS
● Indoor in an office environment.
● Occasionally meetings, training, and appointments will be onsite at a shelter, tiny house village, urban campground, or other facilities.
● The first three days will consist of training and other opportunities for professional development throughout the term.
PHYSICAL & INTELLECTUAL DEMANDS
● Must be able to materially perform tasks normally associated with this position and be able to sit, stand, twist, stoop, reach above and below shoulders, use hands, feet, and keyboarding skills. Be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
EQUIPMENT USED
● Company computers, office equipment, and supplies.
TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION
● Car recommended.
● When approved, mileage will be reimbursed using federal guidelines at $.655 cents per mile.
MEMBER BENEFITS INCLUDE
● $26,435 living allowance paid over the 11-month service term.
● $7,395 education award upon successful completion of the term of service which can be used to repay qualified student loans or for further education in an accredited institution of higher learning, vocational or trade schools. The education award is taxed in the year that it is used. Members that are 55 and older may transfer the award to one child or grandchild.
● May be eligible for Loan Forbearance & Interest Accrual Repayment on qualified loans (after successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps will pay the accrued interest on qualified loans, which is taxable).
