Engineer in Training (EIT) – Structural Engineering

Jimco Sales & Manufacturing | Fort Worth, TX

Full-Time | On-Site

Are you an early-career engineer who wants to do more than sit behind a screen and run calculations? Jimco Sales & Manufacturing is looking for an Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our Engineering Team and grow into a key structural engineering resource for the company. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent engineering graduate who has already passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and wants to build real-world structural engineering experience under the guidance of an experienced licensed Professional Engineer.

At Jimco, you will not just learn structural design in theory. You will see how your engineering work moves from calculations to drawings to fabrication and construction. You will work closely with Engineering and Drafting, learn Jimco’s structural design standards and in-house processes, and progressively take on more responsibility as your skills and judgment develop.

What You’ll Do

You will support the structural design and engineering of fuel canopy steel structures and related steel projects, including:

 Perform structural calculations and analysis for steel canopies and related structures

 Evaluate wind, snow, seismic, live, dead and other applicable structural loads

 Assist with the design and evaluation of steel beams, columns, purlins, connections, base

plates and anchor systems

 Apply applicable structural codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7 and AISC

 Use engineering software and Jimco’s in-house calculation tools

 Review structural drawings and verify that drawings accurately reflect engineering

calculations

 Coordinate closely with the Drafting team

 Assist with project-specific engineering revisions and requirements

 Learn Jimco’s standard canopy systems and engineering practices

 Progress toward independently completing portions of structural designs

What Success Looks Like

During your first months, you will work closely with Jimco’s licensed Professional Engineer to learn how the engineering principles you studied in school apply to real-world canopy design. As your knowledge develops, the goal is for you to become increasingly independent in completing calculations, reviewing drawings and supporting structural designs. Within approximately 12–18 months, a successful EIT should be capable of handling increasingly complex canopy systems with limited supervision.

What We’re Looking For

 Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering with a strong structural focus

 Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam

 Approximately 3.0 GPA or higher

 Strong interest in structural engineering and steel design

 Attention to detail and a high commitment to accuracy

 Organized and efficient work habits

 Curiosity and a willingness to ask questions

 Ability to take direction, learn quickly and apply what you have learned

 Strong communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively in an office

environment

 Initiative — someone who looks for answers and takes ownership rather than waiting to

be told every next step

 Genuine interest in developing practical engineering knowledge and progressing toward a Professional Engineer license

Experience with AutoCAD or structural engineering software is helpful, but Jimco expects to train the successful candidate on its internal engineering tools and processes.
