About us

North Texas Performing Arts (NTPA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to developing the character of youth through quality performing arts education and family entertainment. Since 1991, Our objective is to use the arts to build "better citizens". While we put on great shows, our favorite expression is that “It’s not about the show”; it's about the educational experience our students gain from their time with us as they develop their character both on-stage and off. We do this by focusing on what we call the “Ten Characters” that define the character traits that we want our directors and staff to focus upon as we teach our students. Our directors work with actors ages 5-18. North Texas Performing Arts is comprised of five youth theatre troupes in Plano, Frisco, Fairview, Dallas, Southlake in addition to the NTPA Academy, Starcatchers (therapeutic arts troupe for individuals with disabilities), and Deaf Theater.

The Facilities Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of all theatre locations. Duties include picking up waste, sweeping, vacuuming and mopping floors, cleaning and restocking bathrooms, cleaning windows and executing minor repairs and maintenance work.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform routine cleaning tasks based on a schedule created by the business manager
Use appropriate cleaning supplies and equipment to keep the interior of the theatres looking clean and professional
Ensure all spaces are fully prepared and reset for the next day
Dust and wet mops all floors in theatres and in restrooms
Ensure paper and soap dispensers are fully stocked and functional
Disinfects and sanitizes all theatres and classrooms
Dust and clean all glass surfaces and photo galleries
Clean and sanitize all sinks and toilet basins
Monitor janitorial supply inventory, and orders, as needed, per established procurement guidelines
Touch-up paint, basic drywall repair, lightbulb replacement, and other general building maintenance
Maintain janitorial equipment and storage areas in a clean and organized fashion;
Empty and clean trash receptacles and collect recycling
Report major damages and repairs to the business manager
Performs other cleaning duties as needed and/or instructed by the business manager
Adhere to NTPA’s safety policies to create a safe work environment for everyone
Participate in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, as requested
Attend and participates in center pre-service and in-service trainings
Perform other duties as assigned to support NTPA’s Mission, Vision and Values.
Coordinate with the Business Manager for more significant repairs
Respond promptly to spills or accidents to ensure employee and guest safety

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to handle multiple tasks at once;
Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to five North Texas locations.
Ability to communicate effectively;
Reliable attendance is required;
Teamwork mentality is strongly preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED preferred. Experience as a custodian or janitor is preferred
2+ Years experience as a custodian / janitor is preferred
2+ Years experience with basic or minor building repairs

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to travel to satellite sites and/or off-site locations for events multiple days weekly;
Proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicles used is required.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Must have reliable transportation and a valid Texas Driver’s license.
Knowledge of safety procedures for handling cleaning chemicals and equipment
Ability to handle physical requirements, such as lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and operating cleaning equipment
Strong attention to detail to ensure thorough building cleaning and maintenance
Excellent communication skills
Flexibility to work days, evenings and weekends
Excellent customer service skills

This position is located primarily at the Willow Bend Center of the Arts in Plano and will travel to all theatre locations in Fairview, Dallas, Frisco and Southlake each week. Reasonable actual costs ($ 0.45 per mile) to commute to these locations will be paid as a regular expense reimbursement bi-weekly.
