About Valley Ranch Islamic Center (VRIC)
Valley Ranch Islamic Center (VRIC) is a 501(c)(3) mosque and community center located at 351 Ranchview Dr, Irving, TX, serving the Muslim communities of Valley Ranch, Las Colinas, Coppell, and the greater DFW metroplex. VRIC provides five daily prayers, Jummah, study circles (halaqas), Ramadan programming, a full-time and part-time Quran School, a medical clinic, and a range of community services.
Our vision is to be a leading Islamic organization providing a dynamic and innovative environment for spiritual, educational, and social activities for the entire family — and specifically for the future generation of American Muslims. Guided by this vision, our Quran School serves students from early childhood Maktab through our Full-Time Hifdh and Ijazah Track programs, with the goal of raising confident, well-grounded huffadh and scholars rooted in Qur'an and Sunnah.
Position Summary / About the Role
The Head of Quran School is the senior instructional and spiritual leader responsible for VRIC's entire Quran School student journey, from our earliest learners at age 3 in Qaidah foundations through our most advanced students at age 18 completing the Full-Time Hifdh and Ijazah Track programs. This person owns the vision, quality, and continuity of that journey: making sure a 3-year-old's first letters, a 10-year-old's daily Hifdh sabaq, and a 18-year-old's Ijazah chain of transmission all sit inside one coherent, well-run program rather than a set of disconnected classes.
The Head of Quran School reports to the VRIC Board of Directors and leads all Quran, Hifdh, Tajweed, and Islamic Studies staff across VRIC's Quran School offerings (Children's Maktab, Part-Time Quran, Young Scholars/Sunday School, Full-Time Hifdh, and the Ijazah Track), so that a student's Quranic and character growth are planned together as one continuum.
Key Responsibilities
- Whole-Journey Vision & Curriculum Leadership: Own and continually refine VRIC's Pre-K–to–Age-18 Quran education pathway: Maktab/Qaidah foundations → fluent recitation & Tajweed → Full-Time Hifdh → Ijazah Track and advanced Islamic Studies. Ensure smooth, age-appropriate transitions between programs so no student's progress stalls or gets lost when they move between teachers, classes, or tracks. Set measurable standards for Tajweed accuracy, memorization retention, and Islamic character development at each age band, and hold staff accountable to them. Align the track with VRIC's Young Scholars/Sunday School and other youth programming so students are not forced to choose between them.
- Staff Leadership & Development: Recruit, hire, mentor, and evaluate Hifdh teachers, Nazirah/Qaidah teachers, and Islamic Studies faculty across all VRIC Quran School programs. Run regular teacher training on Tajweed pedagogy, classroom management for young children, and retention/muraja'ah (review) methodology for older Hifdh students. Build a substitute and succession plan so a single teacher's absence never interrupts a student's memorization schedule.
- Student Progress & Individualized Pathways: Implement and oversee a school-wide progress-tracking system covering every student from first Qaidah lesson through Ijazah completion. Review individual student plans regularly, especially at transition points and for students who are behind pace or advancing quickly. Personally engage with struggling or at-risk students and their teachers to intervene early.
- Family & Community Partnership: Serve as the primary point of contact for VRIC families on questions about their child's overall Quran journey, not just a single class. Host regular parent updates/orientations at key milestones (starting Hifdh, halfway point, Ijazah). Represent the Quran School at VRIC community events, fundraising efforts, and with the Board of Directors, Board of Trustees, and religious leadership. On occasion provide Jummah sermon and hold Quran Nights.
- Operations, Compliance & Culture: Set the academic calendar, class structure, and staffing plan across all age groups in coordination with the Board. Ensure child-safety, safeguarding, and background-check policies are followed for all staff working with minors, consistent with VRIC's Quran School Grievance Policy and Code of Conduct. Cultivate a school culture of adab (Islamic manners), patience, and encouragement, the tone set at the top shapes how every age group is taught.
Required Qualifications
- Quranic & Islamic credentials: Ijazah in the Quran (Hifs 'an 'Asim or relevant riwayah) with demonstrably strong Tajweed; Hafidh/Hafidha strongly preferred. Formal Islamic Studies training (Aalimiyyah, Bachelor's/Master's in Islamic Studies, or equivalent scholarly training).
- Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Education, Islamic Studies, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 5–8 years teaching Quran/Hifdh, including at least 2–3 years in a leadership, coordinator, or principal-level role overseeing multiple teachers and age groups.
- Track record: Demonstrated success guiding students across a full memorization or academic journey, not just a single class or age band.
- Leadership skills: Proven ability to hire, train, and manage teaching staff; comfortable setting standards and giving direct, constructive feedback.
- Communication: Fluent in English (additional fluency in Arabic and/or Urdu is a strong asset); confident public speaker with parents, the Board, and community leaders.
- Compliance: Clear background check/child-safeguarding clearance as required by Texas law and VRIC policy.
- Budgeting & Departmental Operations: Experience managing departmental budgets, allocating resources, and optimizing teacher-to-student ratios.
- Standardized Assessment Design: Ability to design and implement standardized assessment rubrics for Tajweed and Hifdh testing across all grade levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing or restructuring a multi-age Quran/Hifdh curriculum from the ground up.
- Familiarity with school management/student-tracking software.
- Experience working with early-childhood (age 3–6) Quran foundations as well as teen/young-adult Hifdh and Ijazah students.
- Prior experience as a school principal, academic dean, or program director.
- Experience adapting Quranic instruction for diverse learning needs or students with individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Familiarity with school management/student-tracking software or experience implementing learning management systems (LMS) or Hifdh-tracking applications to measure student retention and progress quantitatively.
Core Attributes & Physical Requirements
- Core Attributes: A steady, patient, and visibly principled model of Islamic character for staff, students, and parents. Systems thinker, able to see the whole 3-to-18 year pipeline and where it breaks, not just the classroom in front of them. High standards paired with genuine warmth toward children and teenagers alike. Comfortable being the final point of accountability for VRIC's Quranic education outcomes.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a standard office environment, which includes sitting for extended periods, using a computer, and communicating effectively via phone and in-person.
Compensation & Benefits
VRIC is targeting top-quartile candidates for this role and has priced the position accordingly for the Dallas–Fort Worth market. The final compensation offer will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, qualifications, and track record.
Equal Opportunity & Employment Status
Employment at VRIC is on an at-will basis. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. VRIC is not able to provide visa sponsorship at this time.
