Job Description:
The Crossroads Kitchen Associate is part of the team responsible for creating the Good Goods - the fresh foods, baked goods, deli offerings, prepared meals, and catering products that make Crossroads Market special. Crossroads Kitchen brings together the Rooster Road Deli, Scratch Street Bakery, Catering, Grab & Go, and other prepared food offerings into one team. Kitchen Associates may have a primary area where they spend most of their time based on their skills, interests, and business needs; however, Associates are expected to learn and support multiple areas of Crossroads Kitchen. Our goal is to create a flexible, cross-trained team where everyone works together to serve our customers and get the job done.
Job Requirements:
Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Production
- Prepare, assemble, package, label, and merchandise food and bakery products according to Crossroads Kitchen recipes, quality standards, and production plans.
- Assist with food preparation, cooking, baking, slicing, portioning, packaging, and other production activities based on training and assigned responsibilities.
- Support production within Rooster Road Deli, Scratch Street Bakery, Catering, Grab & Go, and other Crossroads Kitchen areas as needed.
- Follow recipes, portion standards, production procedures, and presentation expectations to provide consistent products for our customers.
- Monitor product freshness, quality, appearance, and availability throughout the shift. Recognize low inventory, empty displays, or upcoming production needs and take action or communicate the need to a Kitchen Lead.
- Stock and replenish displays, cases, coolers, service areas, and Grab & Go products.
- Help minimize food waste through proper preparation, rotation, portioning, storage, and handling
Customer Service
- Provide friendly, helpful, and attentive service to every customer.
- Greet customers and assist them with product selections, special orders, deli service, bakery orders, catering questions, and other Crossroads Kitchen needs.
- Learn Crossroads Kitchen products and services well enough to confidently answer customer questions and make recommendations.
- Take ownership of customer needs and seek assistance when necessary rather than simply directing the customer elsewhere.
- Help create the welcoming, hometown experience Crossroads Market is known for.
One Kitchen, One Team
- Work as part of one Crossroads Kitchen team, regardless of the area assigned for a particular shift.
- Be willing to learn and work in multiple areas of Crossroads Kitchen based on customer demand, staffing, production needs, and business priorities.
- Assist coworkers when another area of Crossroads Kitchen needs help.
- Communicate effectively with Kitchen Leads, the Crossroads Kitchen Manager, and fellow Associates.
- Accept coaching and feedback and demonstrate a willingness to continually learn and improve.
- Take ownership of responsibilities, recognize what needs to be done, and follow through to completion without waiting to be asked.
- Help create a positive workplace built on teamwork, respect, accountability, urgency, and pride.
Cross-Training
Crossroads Kitchen Associates will be provided opportunities to become trained in multiple areas, which may include:
Rooster Road Deli, Scratch Street Bakery, Grab & Go, Hot Foods, Sandwich and Meal Preparation, Catering Preparation and Order Assembly, Food Production, Packaging and Labeling, Customer Service, Cleaning and Sanitation, and Opening and Closing Procedures
An Associate may have a primary work area, but assignment to a particular area does not limit the Associate to that area. Work assignments may change based on customer and business needs.
Certain specialty positions—including Cake Decorator, Donut Fryer, and Catering Event Service Staff—may maintain specialized job responsibilities while remaining part of the overall Crossroads Kitchen team.
Food Safety, Cleanliness & Organization
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, temperature-control, allergen, labeling, and safe food-handling procedures.
- Follow established cleaning and sanitation schedules and procedures.
- Maintain clean, organized, stocked, and customer-ready work areas throughout the shift.
- Properly clean and care for equipment, utensils, work surfaces, coolers, cases, and production areas.
- Immediately report food safety, equipment, maintenance, or workplace safety concerns to a Kitchen Lead or Manager.
- Follow all applicable Crossroads Market policies and local, state, and federal requirements.
Quality & Presentation
- Take pride in the quality and appearance of everything produced and sold through Crossroads Kitchen.
- Ensure products are fresh, properly packaged and labeled, attractively displayed, and ready for our customers.
- Follow established recipes and production standards to provide consistency.
- Rotate products and remove items that do not meet freshness or quality standards.
- Help maintain full, clean, attractive, and inviting displays throughout the day.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with receiving, stocking, inventory, cleaning, dishes, supplies, and other Kitchen responsibilities as assigned.
- Support catering production and large orders when additional assistance is needed.
- Assist during holidays, weekends, special events, and other high-volume periods.
- Perform opening and/or closing responsibilities based on assigned schedule and training.
- Perform other duties necessary to support Crossroads Kitchen, Crossroads Market, and our customers.

- Communicate professionally with customers and coworkers.
- Be able to work in a fast-paced environment and adjust priorities as business needs change.
- Be available for a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on position and business needs.
- Prior food service, retail, bakery, deli, restaurant, or catering experience is helpful but not required. We are willing to train people with the right attitude and work ethic.
