Full Job Description

Job Overview

THE WATERFORD VETERINARY CLINIC HAS AN OPENING FOR A MATURE ADULT IN THE ROLE OF RECEPTIONIST. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: LAB WORK, ANIMAL CARE/HANDLING, AND SOME VARIED VETERINARY TASKS. THE SCHEDULE IS FLEXIBLE. THE RESPONSIBITIES ARE VARIED AND SCIENTIFICALLY INTERESTING. THE JOB IS JUST FUN.

Responsibilities

Assist with animal restraint during examinations and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff
Administer medications and vaccines under supervision of licensed veterinarians or technicians
Support veterinary technicians in performing laboratory tests, sample collection, and basic diagnostics
Maintain cleanliness of treatment areas, kennels, and surgical suites following aseptic techniques
Handle pet care duties including feeding, bathing, and monitoring animal behavior and health status
Assist with pet intake and discharge at the front desk, including scheduling appointments and managing client communications
Support in animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, grooming, and general care for hospitalized or boarded animals
Handle various species including dogs, cats, and exotics with proper animal handling techniques
Maintain accurate records of treatments, medications administered, and patient histories using veterinary terminology
Assist with laboratory procedures such as sample processing and specimen preparation
Office work and billing.

Requirements

Excellent communication skills for front desk duties and client interaction
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
Relevant experience such as veterinary assistant or technician experience is advantageous but not mandatory; training will be provided for qualified candidates eager to learn
