Civil Engineer
Obayashi Corporation is seeking qualified candidates for a Civil Engineer position. We are a global professional construction company and bring the best quality and technical expertise in areas of Heavy Civil works and Building Construction work, including Site Development, Wet and Dry Utility Installation, Wharf improvement, and Industrial & Commercial Building works. Obayashi Corporation has an excellent career opportunity for a Civil Engineer to work for our Guam Projects. The successful candidate should be a highly motivated individual and have enough experience to support the planning, design review, execution, and closeout phases of civil and structural work for waterfront and onshore facilities and other on-going projects with emphasis on site safety and quality.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents for compliance with NAVFAC standards and project requirements.
- Provide technical oversight and on-site support during civil works construction including grading, drainage, roads, foundations, utility systems, and waterfront structures.
- Conduct site inspections to verify conformance with approved plans, safety standards, and quality specifications.
- Coordinate with NAVFAC representatives, construction contractors, and other engineering disciplines to resolve design and construction issues.
- Monitor project progress and ensure timely execution of deliverables and milestones.
- Assist in preparing technical reports, submittal reviews, RFIs, change orders, and as-built documentation.
- Ensure all civil engineering work complies with applicable U.S. codes, federal regulations, and military construction guidelines.
- Supervise Subcontracting works.
- Support quality control and safety staff in identifying and mitigating construction risks.
- Attend regular project and coordination meetings with Navy officials and contractors.
REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience
- Graduate of a 4-year accredited college or university program in civil engineering, or construction related discipline
- Minimum 10 years of experience in civil engineering
- Strong Proficiency in major Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- A valid US driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required. For foreign candidates, they must have at least 5 years of satisfactory driving record.
- Must be able to pass a background check for access to US military facilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- No criminal record or history of drug use
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Local candidates from Guam and the CNMI
- Previous experience on projects for Department of Defense agencies (NAVFAC, USACE, etc.)
- Knowledge of special applications such as Primavera P6, and Microsoft Projects
- Strong Proficiency in AUTOCAD or Bluebeam
- “Intermediate Excel skills” including knowledge of some advanced formulas and functions for efficient use of spreadsheets.
- Good at mathematics

About Us
Obayashi Corporation is the only Japanese general contractor that has been operating in the United States and Canada for a long time, notably since receiving our first tunneling project in San Francisco, CA in 1982. We currently have several tunneling projects as well as some CM/GC (Construction Manager and General Contractor) type contracts in the states. We have completed many projects in the region during our 40-plus year history, including the historic Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge mentioned above. We also have two strong heavy civil contractors in our group, Kraemer North America, MWH and Kenaidan.
Since its establishment in Guam in 2010, the Guam Office has focused on federal and military construction projects throughout the island.
