A well-established leader in the building materials and infrastructure industry is seeking a Director of Tax to lead its U.S. tax strategy and compliance function while providing leadership across treasury activities.
This is a highly visible position with direct exposure to senior financial leadership and the opportunity to advise executives and business leaders on decisions that have meaningful tax and financial implications.
The role also provides an unusually broad leadership platform, combining tax strategy, planning, compliance, treasury, financing, and corporate governance rather than focusing exclusively on tax compliance.

What You'll OwnTax Strategy & Planning
You'll be the organization's senior U.S. tax resource, responsible for developing strategies that optimize the company's tax position while managing risk and maintaining compliance.
- Develop and implement U.S. tax strategies and policies
- Identify opportunities for tax savings, planning, and risk reduction
- Evaluate the tax consequences of major business decisions, transactions, and organizational changes
- Monitor changes to federal, state, and local tax laws and translate those changes into actionable business guidance
- Partner with external tax advisors and governmental authorities as needed
Tax Compliance & Audit
- Oversee federal, state, and local tax compliance and filing activities
- Direct the preparation and review of corporate tax returns
- Manage tax examinations and audits across multiple jurisdictions
- Negotiate and resolve tax issues while minimizing financial exposure
- Oversee indirect tax matters including sales and use, real estate, personal property, fuel, and employment taxes
- Ensure tax policies and practices remain aligned with applicable regulations
Executive & Business Advisory
This position isn't simply responsible for producing tax returns — you'll help the business understand how tax considerations should influence financial and operational decisions.
- Serve as a trusted tax advisor to executive leadership, finance teams, and business units
- Provide technical guidance on transactions, restructurings, and strategic initiatives
- Advise controllers and accounting teams on appropriate transactional tax treatment
- Translate complex tax issues into clear recommendations for non-tax stakeholders
- Partner across accounting, finance, treasury, and operations to ensure consistent tax treatment
Treasury & Financial Strategy
You'll also have meaningful ownership beyond the tax function, partnering with senior financial leadership on treasury and corporate finance matters.
- Oversee U.S. treasury activities including cash management and liquidity planning
- Support borrowing strategies, funding requirements, and financing arrangements
- Monitor compliance with debt agreements and related financial obligations
- Coordinate additional funding requirements as needed
- Partner with senior financial leadership on liquidity, capital structure, and financial risk
Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop tax and treasury professionals
- Establish a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning
- Provide technical direction and professional development to team members
- Manage external tax advisors and consultants
- Ensure outside resources are delivering high-quality, cost-effective support
Corporate Leadership
This is an opportunity to expand beyond traditional tax leadership.
The Director will serve as an officer of the U.S. business, holding Treasurer and Assistant Secretary responsibilities, while supporting the CFO and executive leadership in maintaining strong financial controls, governance, and compliance.
You'll have a voice in matters that extend well beyond the tax department.
What You Bring
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Active CPA license
- 10–15 years of progressive tax experience
- Significant experience in a corporate tax environment, public accounting, or a combination of both
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local taxation
- Demonstrated experience leading complex tax planning and compliance functions
- Experience with treasury activities, financing arrangements, and related financial obligations
- Experience leading teams and managing external tax advisors
- Strong analytical, communication, leadership, and executive advisory skills
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives in a complex business environment
Preferred
- Master's degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Experience with a large, multi-entity organization
- Experience supporting geographically dispersed operations
- Exposure to complex financing structures and treasury operations
- Experience advising senior executives and business leaders
- Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) internal control requirements
