Youth Peer Advocate (Mansfield Center, CT)

Description:

United Services is seeking an enthusiastic Youth Peer Advocate to support youth substance use prevention, community advocacy, and mental health awareness initiatives throughout Northeastern Connecticut. This is a great opportunity for young people ages 16-24 who are passionate about making a difference in their communities and empowering their peers through education, engagement, and prevention efforts.

As a Youth Peer Advocate, you will collaborate with local prevention coalitions, participate in leadership opportunities, and help raise awareness about substance misuse prevention and mental health through peer-to-peer outreach and community initiatives.

Location: 140 North Frontage Road, Mansfield Center, CT 06250

What You Will Do (Day-to-Day):

Participate in and represent your Local Prevention Council (LPC) at monthly Governor's Prevention Partnership (GPP) Youth Advisory Board meetings.
Serve on at least one GPP Youth Advisory Board subcommittee.
Assist the coalition in implementing the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF).
Participate in coalition meetings and prevention-related activities.
Engage peers in discussions about substance use prevention and healthy decision-making.
Support community outreach and prevention initiatives.
Assist in developing media campaigns targeting youth and parents.
Collaborate with community partners and diverse populations.

Schedule: 5 to 20 hours per week. Flexible schedule based on program needs.

Hourly Rate: $16.94 (Minimum Wage)

Minimum Requirements:

Must be between the ages of 16-24.
Demonstrated interest in youth substance use prevention, community advocacy, and promoting mental health.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to engage peers in conversations about substance use and wellness.
Comfortable with public speaking and community engagement activities.
Ability to work effectively with community members and diverse populations.

Youth Peer Advocate Schedule: 5 hours per week- up to 20 hours per week, flexible schedule

Work Location: This position requires employees to be fully present in the office and in the community.

This position is not eligible for benefits.
