Full Job Description

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial reporting functions for assigned associations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of all accounting activities while providing leadership, training, and support to the accounting team.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under minimal supervision, perform advanced accounting functions and serve as a resource for the accounting team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Maintain association general ledgers and subsidiary accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Prepare, review, and post journal entries.
Reconcile bank accounts (operating and reserves) & other balance sheet accounts on a timely basis.
Prepare and review monthly financial statements & supporting schedules for multiple associations.
Analyze financial data, investigate variances, and resolve accounting discrepancies.
Review delinquency reports and prepare collection correspondence in accordance with company procedures.
Prepare and file General Excise Tax returns.
Research and respond to accounting, financial, and operational inquiries from management, property managers, board members, homeowners, tenants, and staff.
Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
Manage accounting responsibilities for complex, high-volume, and/or large-scale associations.
Ensure compliance with departmental and company policies, procedures, internal controls, and established deadlines.

Assist the Director of Accounting in developing, implementing, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to accounting and financial reporting functions. Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls. Participate in special projects, system implementations, audits, and financial analyses as assigned.

Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to Accountants and other accounting staff. Handle customer service inquiries professionally and effectively.

Maintain strict confidentiality of company, association, employee, and homeowner
information.

Perform other duties & responsibilities as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, assign, direct, and coordinate the activities of Accountants and other assigned accounting staff.
Supervise and monitor team performance, ensuring adherence to established procedures, deadlines, quality standards, and financial reporting requirements.
Review financial statements and work product prepared by staff for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Provide coaching, training, and ongoing development opportunities to enhance employee performance and professional growth.
Assist with onboarding and training new accounting team members.
Manage workload distribution and staffing resources to ensure timely completion of assignments and adequate backup coverage.
Approve employee time-off requests and assist with scheduling to maintain operational efficiency.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide regular feedback regarding employee
performance and development.
Analyze complex accounting and operational issues and recommend practical solutions.
Foster a collaborative, service-oriented, and high-performance work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or related field. MBA Preferred.
3 years of progressively responsible related experience required (additional education or certification may be substituted for some experience).
Experience in Property Management field is preferable but not necessary.
Experience with accruals is a must
Supervisory experience required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel & Word in particular) and Windows
Able to use 10-key by touch
Advanced knowledge in the use of financial software applications, databases and
spreadsheets
Familiar with Accounting systems (i.e. Timberline and Yardi)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both verbally and written
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong customer relations skills
Detail oriented and highly organized
Skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks
Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable regulations
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and government
agencies
Able to work as a member of a team as well as work independently
Able to analyze a situation and formulate an effective plan of action
Able to work with a high degree of accuracy and large volume of work
Regular and reliable attendance is required
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, prorations,
and percentages.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financial reports and legal
documents such as mortgage loans, notes payable and maintenance agreement

Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
