Duties and Responsibilities:
1. *Performs various professional accounting tasks that require general reviews for technical accuracy and compliance with guidelines established by college and university accounting and reporting guides.
2. *Completes, reviews, maintains, reconciles, and audits financial transaction reports, forms, requests, and journal entries in accordance with federal, state, and university guidelines.
3. *Maintains and analyzes financial transactions for: chart of account, financial records and reports, financial data relating to materials, labor, overhead costs, object codes and control ledgers, registers, journals, and other related fiscal records.
4. Accounts for a variety of technical financial transactions that require special attention for year-end financial reporting.
5. *Develops, revises and prepares written policies, administrative procedures, instructions, guidelines, financial statements, cost and valuation reports for internal and external review/distribution.
6. *Develops and prepares year-end schedules to coordinate the input of accounting transactions for various departmental and central offices.
7. Prepares year-end adjusting and closing entries for trial balances.
8. *Develops, writes and tests computer program requests to implement new or automate/revise existing accounting requirements related to journal entries, financial reports, and system files.
9. Analyzes new accounting pronouncements and provides input for appropriate action by the University.
10. Applies professional knowledge and judgement to help solve complex accounting issues affecting the University.
11. Interprets and advises of options/alternatives and recommendations on accounting policies and procedures.
12. Communicates verbally and in writing with University senior management, departments, faculty, fiscal office personnel, students, individuals and/or outside agencies on accounting and reporting matters; resolves accounting issues and discrepancies.
13. Other duties as assigned.

Denotes Essential Functions

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Accounting or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for accounting/fiscal operations; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
2. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of governmental or financial accounting as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with governmental or financial accounting.
4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
8. If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
