Full Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

(Night shift differential $1.00 per hour)

High School diploma or GED not required
Valid Driver’s License not required
Must be able to pass a criminal background check

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Complete and maintain CPR, First Aid, OSHA certification (initial certification to be completed within 30 days of date of hire)
Obtain and maintain current Mandt certification (initial certification to be completed within 30 days of date of hire)
Complete and maintain State of Montana and SMR medication certifications within 60 days of hire. This is also a required step to transition to Direct Staff II.
Complete ongoing College of Direct Supports as required by contract (Must be completed within 6 months of hire)
Maintain all mandatory required certifications to be able to work

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

This is a rewarding yet challenging position where the Direct Care Staff provides for the caring for and oversight of residents in services. This would include but not limited to being able to transport them in a company vehicle, ensuring that the group home is neat and taken care of, preparing meals for the residents, and engaging them in an active role to stimulate development. This position also will aid to ensure that the overall hygiene of the residents are maintained that would include restroom assistance and bathing and showering. Direct Care Staff need to be aware of the residents as to be able to identify when something is out of the normal with a resident that may be indicative of a health condition that needs to be assessed by a medical professional. All duties and responsibilities are to be performed keeping in mind the following principles.

The first is normalization, which means we are trying to provide the people we serve with the same lifestyle and choices each of us has. The second is that we provide information for People to make choices with, and we honor their decisions.

SMR also requires you to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times in all service locations and community settings. We also require you to conduct all activities in the service location in a safe and prudent manner and assure the service location meets contractual obligations.

In addition to the following duties, you may be required to perform other duties as assigned by the Group Home Manager, or other supervisors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Conduct self in a professional manner at all times.
Assist to ensure that the service area meets all contractual and accreditation obligations.
Assist each person served to develop functional, competency-based skills through their interactions in their community.
Assist each person served to develop and maintain a positive image within their community.
Support each person in making choices that affect their life in the community and to grow in their relationships with people in the community.
Assist to complete an agency approved assessment packet to assess each person served within 30 days of date of entry into services, and within 60 days prior to each annual IP meeting thereafter.
Implement all training and support objectives according to PSP timelines and agency training and support objective formats.
Provide necessary training and assistance in all areas identified by the PSP team of the person served.
Assist people who receive Home and Community Based Services with all aspects of daily living activities in the home and the community.
Encourage and assist in proper household management and maintenance including but not limited to shopping and laundry.
Assist to ensure that the nutritional needs of persons served are met.
Assist persons served to groom and dress themselves in a manner that affords them the opportunity to be accepted by the community.
Ensure that the principle of individuation is incorporated in the daily activities of each person served.
Ensure that the choices and preferences of persons served are incorporated into their daily, weekly, and monthly activities.
Promote community inclusion/integration to the fullest extent.
Attend and participate in Staff meetings in order to share information pertinent to the individuals they oversee.
All staff are required stay awake and alert for the entirety of their shifts, including overnight shifts.
