The Community Meals Transportation and Logistics Manager helps bring that mission to life by ensuring that meals prepared for our neighbors make the final and critical step from our kitchen to the people and communities we serve. Through strong leadership, safe and reliable transportation, and responsive daily operations, this role helps ensure that every meal is delivered with care, dignity, and dependability. The Manager builds a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and service so transportation challenges do not become barriers to feeding our neighbors.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Community Meals Transportation and Logistics Manager leads the people, vehicles, routes, and daily logistics that support Community Meals delivery operations. This hands-on position supervises drivers, manages routing and fleet readiness, resolves transportation and delivery issues, and coordinates with Community Meals and kitchen leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and dependable service. The Manager also provides operational coverage as needed, including serving as a backup driver and assisting with other Community Meals functions to maintain continuity of service.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Supervise Community Meals drivers, including hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, daily assignments, coaching, documentation, performance management, and other supervisory responsibilities.
· Oversee daily driver preparation and ensure drivers understand their routes and have the meals, equipment, supplies, documentation, and information needed to successfully complete assigned deliveries.
· Support driver preparation as needed, including assisting with meal components, loading, and other route-readiness needs when circumstances require.
· Establish, maintain, evaluate, and modify delivery routes and schedules to support safe, timely, and efficient service.
· Troubleshoot delivery-related customer service concerns and respond to driver, vehicle, route, and transportation issues in a timely manner to minimize service disruptions.
· Serve as a backup driver when needed and provide hands-on support or coverage for other Community Meals functions as operational needs require.
· Assist with receiving and storing incoming food and supply deliveries as needed and ensure returned meals, food products, equipment, and other materials are handled and stored appropriately.
· Work closely with Community Meals and kitchen leadership to coordinate daily operations, evaluate performance, identify challenges, and develop and implement improvements.
· Attend staff and operational meetings and provide relevant updates and feedback regarding drivers, routes, transportation needs, safety, team dynamics, equipment, and facility needs.
· Oversee the Community Meals vehicle fleet and transportation equipment, including inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, service schedules, registrations, cleanliness, safety, and overall operational readiness.
· Complete or coordinate required vehicle inspections and maintain accurate vehicle, driver, maintenance, safety, and compliance records.
· Coordinate with vendors and service providers for vehicle repairs, inspections, preventative maintenance, and other fleet needs.
· Ensure drivers follow organizational policies, safety procedures, food-handling requirements, and applicable transportation regulations.
· Monitor driver dash-camera systems to promote safe driving practices, identify concerns, and support coaching and accountability.
· Review dash-camera footage as appropriate following accidents, reported incidents, safety concerns, or potential policy violations.
· Manage driver RAMP credit card accounts, including issuing cards, monitoring transactions, reviewing receipts, reconciling expenses, and ensuring compliance with organizational spending policies.
· Monitor fuel, maintenance, and other transportation-related expenses and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and manage costs.
· Maintain transportation equipment, delivery materials, vehicles, and related operational areas in a safe, clean, organized, and service-ready condition.
· Represent Second Harvest Food Bank professionally and positively in the community, demonstrating respect, courtesy, reliability, and commitment to our mission when interacting with neighbors, partner organizations, volunteers, vendors, and members of the public.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
· Education & Experience: Associate degree in logistics, transportation, operations, business, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant education and experience will be considered.

· Leadership Experience: Two or more years of supervisory, transportation, logistics, fleet, distribution, or related operational experience preferred.
· Supervision: Experience supervising employees, coordinating schedules, or leading operational teams preferred.
· Driver Requirements: Valid driver’s license and ability to meet organizational requirements for operating Second Harvest vehicles.
· Food Safety: ServSafe certification or willingness and ability to obtain certification within six months of employment.
· Forklift: Forklift training/certification or willingness and ability to complete required training within 90 days of employment.
· Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Organization: Strong organizational, scheduling, and time-management skills.
· Leadership: Ability to effectively supervise, coach, motivate, and hold team members accountable.

WORK LOCATION & SCHEDULE
This position works primarily onsite in a fast-paced Community Meals environment that may include office, kitchen, warehouse/loading, parking, delivery vehicle, and outdoor settings. Work may take place in loud environments and in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and other inclement weather.
Daily work hours will vary based on delivery schedules, staffing, vehicle needs, and other operational demands and will not follow a traditional 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. schedule. The position may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed. Flexibility is required, including the ability to shift between supervisory, administrative, driving, and hands-on operational responsibilities throughout the day and to provide backup driver or other Community Meals coverage when necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Frequently stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, squat, push, pull, and move throughout kitchen, warehouse, loading, parking, and delivery areas.
· Frequently lift, carry, move, or position items weighing up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
· Regularly push, pull, maneuver, and position loaded carts, racks, hot-food carriers, meal boxes, and other equipment weighing more than 50 pounds, including moving loaded food and delivery equipment into and out of delivery vehicles.
· Load and unload meals, hot-food boxes, supplies, carts, equipment, and other materials throughout the workday.
· Regularly enter and exit delivery vehicles and safely operate organization vehicles when providing route coverage or performing other transportation responsibilities.
· Sit or stand for varying periods depending on daily operational needs.
· Use computers, mobile devices, routing systems, vehicle equipment, and other tools necessary to perform assigned responsibilities.
· Communicate and exchange information effectively with employees, vendors, program partners, neighbors, and members of the community.
