Nassau Community College invites applications for a full-time Director of Special Programs in the Office of College Development.

The Director of Special Programs provides a broad range of leadership and administrative support to plan, organize, and manage activities within assigned department(s) and area(s), aligned with the College's Strategic Plan and institutional goals. The successful candidate will demonstrate the highest ethical standards while working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to advance the College's mission.

The Director is expected to work expeditiously and diligently on behalf of the institution while utilizing a data-informed and equity-focused approach to enhance student access, enrollment, institutional advancement, and philanthropic support.

Primary Responsibilities

The Director of Special Programs will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and oversight of the following functions:

Development & Advancement

Implement and coordinate the College's development efforts, including all aspects of the Nassau Community College Foundation and Alumni Organization.
Assist with and support fundraising activities while serving as a key fundraiser responsible for expanding and diversifying the organization's funding base.
Develop and maintain relationships necessary to achieve fundraising and revenue goals while enhancing the College's overall mission.
Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for cultivating individual, corporate, and philanthropic support to significantly increase the flow of funds and ensure long-term sustainability through appropriate succession planning.
Develop, implement, and sustain a strategically appropriate mix of funding sources, including annual giving, major gifts, project-specific funding, nongovernmental grants, endowments, alumni giving, corporate partnerships, private donors, and foundations.
Establish, implement, and maintain the infrastructure necessary to support the Foundation's activities and fundraising initiatives.
Expand and diversify the donor pipeline while collaborating with College leadership and Foundation partners to secure funding for new initiatives.
Work closely with the Foundation Board of Directors and support Board members as they assume increasingly active fundraising roles.

Event Coordination & Campus Collaboration

Coordinate with appropriate campus offices to ensure the successful planning and execution of College and Foundation events, including but not limited to General Counsel, Finance, Facilities Management, AV Support, Catering, Public Safety, the Registrar, and other relevant departments.
Work collaboratively with College departments and community stakeholders to support institutional advancement initiatives.

Leadership & Administration

Develop, supervise, and direct assigned staff.
Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, codes, ordinances, and pending legislation affecting assigned areas.
Assist with all internal and external reporting necessary to maintain local, state, and federal compliance.
Assist with the implementation, assessment, and evaluation of policies, processes, and procedures related to assigned areas.
Assist in identifying and eliminating redundancies within assigned areas and collaborate with administrators across the College to improve operational efficiency.

Budget & Fiscal Management

Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and accountability in developing and administering the department's annual budget.
Analyze and review budgetary and financial data.
Control and authorize expenditures within established resources and limitations, as directed.

Institutional Service

Serve on College committees, as assigned.
Work effectively with diverse populations.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of fundraising experience with a nonprofit organization.
Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in administration, supervision, organizational leadership, and/or directing institutional initiatives or programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:

Master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Higher Education Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
Experience working in a Community College Development or Institutional Advancement office.
Experience fundraising for an institution of higher education.
Experience working at a community college.
Experience working in a unionized environment.
Experience using enterprise systems and technology commonly utilized in higher education and institutional advancement, including but not limited to Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Visio, Blackbaud, and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

Knowledge

In-depth knowledge of strategic planning, fundraising, and organizational development.
Knowledge of best practices in cultivating donor, alumni, corporate, foundation, and community relationships.
Familiarity with the mission, goals, and objectives of Nassau Community College and an understanding of the diverse needs of its students, faculty, and staff.
Knowledge of the local community and the College's service area.

Skills

Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate strategic goals and initiatives.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify issues, analyze data, and develop effective recommendations.
Excellent oral, written, presentation, interpersonal, and relationship-building communication skills.
Strong organizational, supervisory, and management skills.
Ability to interpret, apply, and explain laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Ability to build collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, Foundation leadership, alumni, donors, and external stakeholders.
Ability to lead fundraising initiatives and promote a positive image of the College and the Nassau Community College Foundation.

Additional Information:

The starting salary for this position is $85,000 annually.
