Full Job Description

Systems Administrator -hybrid

This is an opportunity for a hands-on Systems Administrator to take on a highly visible role supporting the technology infrastructure of a large, established Hawaii-based organization. Working within a complex, multi-location environment, this individual will have exposure to a broad range of technologies and the opportunity to take meaningful ownership of critical systems, infrastructure, security, and technology improvement initiatives.

The Systems Administrator will be responsible for supporting and administering servers, Microsoft technologies, virtualization platforms, enterprise applications, backup systems, and related infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical position ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting complex issues, improving systems, and working across a broad range of infrastructure technologies.

The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in systems administration, Microsoft technologies, networking, and cybersecurity, along with the ability to independently diagnose and resolve technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

Administer and maintain Windows-based servers, systems, and enterprise applications.
Support Microsoft 365, Active Directory/Entra ID, user access, permissions, and related Microsoft services.
Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, and system health and proactively address potential issues.
Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain on-premises hardware and software.
Administer and support virtualized environments utilizing VMware and/or Hyper-V.
Assist with network troubleshooting involving TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and related technologies.
Implement and maintain security measures designed to protect systems, endpoints, accounts, and organizational data.
Support endpoint protection, email security, access controls, and other cybersecurity technologies.
Maintain backup systems and participate in disaster recovery and business continuity activities.
Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and technical issues escalated by the Service Desk.
Work with technology vendors and outside service providers supporting infrastructure and cybersecurity systems.
Participate in technology upgrades, infrastructure improvements, system implementations, and other IT projects.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
Participate in occasional after-hours maintenance and response to business-critical technology incidents.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
2+ years of professional Systems Administration, Systems Engineering, Infrastructure, or comparable IT experience.
Hands-on experience administering Windows environments.
Experience with Microsoft 365 and Active Directory/Entra ID.
Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and/or Hyper-V.
Working knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VLANs.
Experience with backup, recovery, and data protection technologies.
Understanding of cybersecurity principles and infrastructure security best practices.
Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to prioritize and respond effectively during business-critical technology incidents.
Strong communication and customer-service skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical users.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting a multi-location or distributed organization.
Linux/Unix administration experience.
Experience working with infrastructure and cybersecurity vendors or managed service providers.
Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft certifications, CCNA, VMware, or similar credentials.

This position may require occasional travel to other locations within Hawaii and availability outside of standard business hours for scheduled maintenance, critical incidents, or major technology implementations.
