Optometry Assistant / Technician

Overview

We are seeking a friendly, dependable, and motivated Optometry Assistant/Technician to join our team. This role combines front office responsibilities with assisting the doctor during comprehensive eye exams and providing an exceptional patient experience.

No experience in the optical or optometry field is required—we are happy to train the right candidate. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, excellent customer service skills, and a willingness to learn are the most important qualifications.

ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Clinical Assistance

Welcome patients and prepare them for their appointments
Assist the optometrist with patient flow and eye examinations
Perform preliminary testing and gather patient history
Learn to operate diagnostic equipment, including:
Auto-refractor
Non-contact tonometer (air puff)
Fundus camera
Other pre-testing equipment as needed
Maintain clean and organized exam rooms and equipment
Ensure patients have a comfortable and positive experience throughout their visit

Front Office Responsibilities

Greet and assist patients in a friendly and professional manner
Answer and direct phone calls using a multi-line phone system
Schedule appointments and manage the daily schedule
Verify patient information and assist with check-in/check-out
Perform general office duties such as filing, copying, scanning, and data entry
Manage incoming and outgoing mail
Monitor office supply inventory and assist with ordering supplies
Perform additional duties as assigned by management

QualificationsRequired

Positive attitude and willingness to learn
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office and general computer skills)
Reliable, punctual, and a team player

Preferred (Not Required)

Previous experience in an optometry, ophthalmology, or medical office
Experience using pre-testing equipment such as an auto-refractor, tonometer, fundus camera, OCT, or retinal imaging devices
Previous receptionist, medical assistant, or patient care experience
Experience with appointment scheduling and electronic medical records (EMR)
