GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Director of the Center for Community and Professional Education (CCAPE) serves as the operational backbone of the department, working closely alongside the Director/Chief Workforce Development Officer to lead day-to-day team operations, drive programmatic excellence, and ensure cohesive execution across CCAPE's full portfolio ? including open enrollment programs, career and technical trainings, employer contract training, apprenticeships, and other employer-focused initiatives. This position bridges strategic vision and ground-level implementation, ensuring that the team is supported, workflows are efficient, and programs are delivered with quality and impact.
The Assistant Director is a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands the full landscape of adult and continuing education, and brings both operational discipline and a relationship-driven mindset to every aspect of the role. This individual provides direct supervisory oversight to the Senior Managers, Grant Manager, and Staff Assistants/Program Coordinators, ensuring accountability while empowering managers to lead their respective portfolios. The Assistant Director supports staff in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance outcomes for learners, employers, and community partners.
The Assistant Director plays a central role in building and maintaining the internal systems, workflows, and accountability structures that keep CCAPE operating at a high level ? ensuring that priorities are clear, progress is tracked, and the team is aligned and resourced to deliver results.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Operations & Team Leadership
- Support the Director/Chief Workforce Development Officer in managing the day-to-day operations of CCAPE, serving as the primary internal point of contact for staff questions, workflow coordination, and operational problem-solving.

Partner with the Director/Chief Workforce Development Officer to translate departmental strategic goals and revenue targets into actionable team priorities, directing and supporting staff in their execution and monitoring progress across all functional areas to ensure milestones and targets are met.

Provide direct supervisory oversight to the Senior Managers, Grant Manager and Staff Assistants/Program Coordinators, offering coaching, performance feedback, workload support, and professional development.

Facilitate regular team meetings, manage staff workloads, and ensure accountability across all functional areas including open enrollment programs, career and technical trainings, employer contract training, and special programs.

Serve as acting lead for CCAPE operations in the absence of the Director/Chief Workforce Development Officer.

Assist in the onboarding and ongoing support of CCAPE staff assistants/program coordinators, instructors, and part-time staff.

Employer Engagement, Contract Training & Apprenticeships
- Provide supervisory oversight and strategic support to the Senior Manager of Employer Engagement and Workforce Partnerships, monitoring progress towards revenue targets, partnership goals, and program quality benchmarks are met.

Provide guidance and operational support to the Senior Manager to advance CCAPE's private employer engagement strategy, from prospecting and relationship-building to contract execution and program delivery.

Provide strategic oversight and ensure alignment of apprenticeship programs and other employer-sponsored workforce initiatives, ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal guidelines.

Support the identification and pursuit of employer-facing funding opportunities including the Workforce Training Fund Program, Workforce Incentive Fund, and other state, federal, and private sources.

Assist in reviewing and approving employer training proposals, grant submissions, and contract agreements in coordination with the Chief Workforce Development Officer.

Ensure strong coordination between the employer contract training team and the open enrollment/career training portfolio to identify shared opportunities and avoid duplication.

Represent CCAPE at employer-facing convenings, workforce board meetings, industry events, and community partnership forums as needed.
Open Enrollment Programs & Career Training
- Provide operational oversight and support for CCAPE's open enrollment portfolio, led by Senior Managers and program staff, including short- and long-term career and technical training programs, professional development offerings, credentialing, digital badges, and stackable credentials.

Conduct ongoing review and formative/summative evaluation of open enrollment course materials, program outcomes, and instructor quality to ensure continuous improvement.

Manage and grow the CCAPE instructor talent bench, ensuring adequate staffing across a wide range of course topics and modalities (in-person, virtual, hybrid, HyFlex), in adherence with college policies.

Ensure effective systems and processes are in place for student and participant management processes including registration, attendance monitoring, reporting, and tracking program progress and outcomes.

Assist in the development and implementation of strategic outreach and recruitment communications to support enrollment growth and market awareness.

Support and monitor progress toward CCAPE's annual open enrollment revenue targets by providing operational oversight, removing barriers, and ensuring the team has the resources needed to meet or exceed goals.
Program Development & Partnerships
- Partner with Senior Managers to identify and evaluate new open enrollment programs, career training offerings, and employer-facing initiatives that align with community needs, workforce trends, and CCAPE's strategic priorities.

Collaborate with the Chief Workforce Development Officer to develop articulation agreements with academic departments, supporting noncredit-to-credit pathways and prior learning assessment initiatives.

Build and maintain relationships with external partners including MassHire Workforce Boards, industry associations, chambers of commerce, community organizations, and educational institutions.

Assist in identifying and developing grant and funding proposals in partnership with the Director/Chief Workforce Development Officer and the college's Director of Grant Administration.
Fiscal & Administrative Oversight
- Assist with fiscal oversight for the CCAPE budget, including detailed budget reporting and tracking expenditures across open enrollment and employer training programs.

Support accounts payable and receivable processes related to CCAPE program operations.

Manage and process open enrollment and employer training reports (enrollment, revenue, contact hours) for the college on a regular and as-requested basis, and for external partners and funders including the Department of Higher Education (Workforce Incentive Report and DHE Noncredit Reporting).

Manage grant reporting requirements and compliance for open enrollment, career training, and employer-facing programs.

Maintain comprehensive records regarding instructors, students, clients, funders, and program partners.
Communication & Outreach
- Utilize CCAPE's digital communication tools ? including college email, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other platforms ? to advance the college's brand and outreach to internal and external constituents.

Provide direction and coordination for strategic communication efforts for open enrollment program marketing, employer outreach, and community visibility.

Model and uphold customer service best practices when engaging with Cape Cod Community College faculty, staff, students, and community members.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide input and support on additional departmental projects, initiatives, and priorities as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director/Chief Workforce Development Officer.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree in Education, Business Administration, Workforce Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in continuing education, workforce development, adult education, or a related field.
3. Demonstrated supervisory or team leadership experience, including the ability to manage, coach, and develop professional staff.
4. Demonstrated experience in program development, curriculum management, and scheduling of training programs or instructors.
5. Knowledge of employer engagement, contract training, and/or apprenticeship program models.
6. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with strong judgment and effective problem-solving skills.
7. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
8. Demonstrated ability to work with external organizations, businesses, and the public, and to navigate the campus community effectively.
9. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with database management and spreadsheet applications.
10. Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
11. Demonstrated understanding of the needs of underserved, vulnerable, and minority populations in the Cape and Islands region.
12. Reliable transportation and ability to travel to and from meetings, trainings, or campus and community locations as required.
13. Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master's degree in Education, Business, or a related field.
2. Minimum of three years of experience in a supervisory or management role within a continuing education, workforce development, or community college setting.
3. Demonstrated experience overseeing or managing an employer engagement, contract training, or apprenticeship program.
4. Familiarity with state and federal workforce funding programs including the Workforce Training Fund Program and Workforce Incentive Fund.
5. Demonstrated experience in the development of open enrollment career and technical training programs and management of a diverse instructor talent bench.
6. Experience with labor market analysis and workforce trends to inform program development and portfolio management.
7. Demonstrated experience developing noncredit-to-credit pathway programs and prior learning assessment frameworks.
8. Proficiency with Jenzabar, CourseStorm, Salesforce, or similar CRM and learning management platforms.
9. Demonstrated knowledge and consistent use of social media outlets on behalf of a business or organization.
10. Demonstrated experience with grant compliance, reporting, and fiscal oversight.
11. Robust understanding of access, equity, and student success practices.
12. Ability to speak a language in addition to English.

Additional Information:
COMPENSATION: Annual Salary Range of $100,000 - $105,000, dependent upon qualifications. Full-time, Non-unit Professional Position that includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program and the option for membership in the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System.
