Position

We are looking for an experienced SQL Server Developer / DBA to optimize and speed up our existing database system.

In this role, you will analyze our current database setup to identify performance bottlenecks, speed up slow queries, and make the system more efficient and functional overall. You will also help connect our data pipelines to modern AI tools.

Key Responsibilities

1. Database Development & Visual Studio Lifecycle

Design, develop, and maintain complex database schemas, stored procedures, views, and triggers using MS SQL Server / T-SQL.
Optimize database performance through index tuning, query plan analysis, and partition management.

· Audit existing database to improve execution speed and reduce server load.

Rewrite and tune slow stored procedures, views, and SQL queries.
Fix missing or fragmented indexes, resolve locking/blocking issues, and optimize database health.
Build clean data flows to prepare our database for AI consumption.

2. AI Integration Infrastructure

Design and manage database schemas optimized for AI applications, including the storage, indexing, and querying of high-dimensional vector embeddings.
Implement database-level integrations for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems to ensure semantic search queries are accurate and lightning-fast.
Leverage AI extensions, external scripts (e.g., Python/R inside SQL Server), or Azure AI Search to enrich relational datasets with machine learning insights.
Bonus / Nice-to-Have:
Experience with vector databases or vector search extensions (e.g., pgvector, Azure SQL, Pinecone).
Basic understanding of embeddings, semantic search, and data flows for AI models.

3. Collaboration & Modern Tooling

Version Control (Git): Save and manage all SQL scripts, and stored procedures in Git so code changes are tracked, reviewed, and backed up safely.
Teamwork: Work directly with application developers to ensure database changes match app requirements and run efficiently.
Visual Studio Integration: Manage database projects to align with our software deployment pipeline.

Technical Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: 4+ years of hands-on SQL Server experience with a focus on database optimization, performance troubleshooting, SQL development, and managing automated SQL jobs.
IDE Tooling: Proficiency with Visual Studio (specifically SQL Server Data Tools / Database Projects) and Git-based database version control.
AI/Data Engineering Skillset: Practical experience with vector databases or vector extensions (e.g., pgvector, Azure SQL vector support, Pinecone, or Milvus).
Understanding of embeddings, semantic search, and prompt engineering data dependencies.
Familiarity with vector search tools and a basic understanding of how embeddings and semantic search work with AI models.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
